Hi All,

Could someone shed some light on the differences in steering columns LX/UC?

I'm aware of the Indicator stalk and housing but is there any others? ie shaft etc?

Also I have one with markings. See Pic. Any ideas on what they mean?

Regards

I'd guess that first part may be a date code?

Something 2B8 maybe? Possibly February 1978?

There are actually 3 styles of columns. There's the regular LX with the 2-eared silver ignition barrel & the hi-beam switch with the thin stalk & the then there's the UC style with HX/HZ stalk & the single-eared black ignition barrel. The much more rare version is the late LX, which has the LX stalk but the later UC ignition barrel.

AFAIK the shafts & most internals are interchangeable between all 3.

Yes, there's the 3 styles of each group in that regard, but I though he was asking about the steering components which don't change with the shifter type.

Noticed the barrel on A9X's had the single ear, was not sure if they were standard or updated, clears that up.

AFAIK all A9Xs should have the single-eared silver barrel from the factory which all ALX, BLX & CLX Toranas should have. It is the 1978 DLX Toranas which should have the 2-eared black type.

Also the right hand column shaft( in the above pic) looks bodgy. That flat where the lower shaft connects doesn't look to be machined. It looks like a back yarder has attacked it with a file.
