I knew I'd seen this somewhere but the pics have disappeared:

This is how I did it

The switch is from Supercheap, $11.00, momentary ON push button switch rated at 16amps.
Numbers are: PLU120389 and SCS1027

You could probably make the adapter bracket flat and use double sided tape wads to make up the difference?

The switch has 3mm travel and does not make contact till it bottoms out which provides a little leeway with the depth.

I made the stepped adapter plate as it captures the switch and reduces the chance of it loosening over time.

I did the same. Same switch.
I just glued the switch into position.

Back in the day I got a switch out of a HG from memory.

Was too easy.

Looked original.

Yes! 5 terminals, 2 for washers. Check the price of them now though?

I don’t think I took a picture.
From memory I removed the factory diaphragm and everything from the rear of the factory switch until you could see the back of the plastic plunger that the knob is attached to.
Then I made a disk of plastic with an OD that matched the inside diameter of the factory switch barrel, and drilled a hole in the center of it for the electric switch.
Fitted the new switch to the disc, inserted it into the factory switch until it almost touched the factory plunger....Then hot glued it into position.
I think I may have used epoxy after ot was fixed in position to make it more permanent.
