Got thinking, what would be more valuable today ,an Lh Gpac or an Lh Slr 3300 . Both similar, same drive train and dash but slr obviously more expensive new. But would the Gpac have the novelty factor as opposed to 6 cyl Slr.

I'd think an SLR would be worth more any day of the week.

The Gpac was little more than a sales gimmick... stick some stripes, hubcaps & an instrument cluster on a base model Torana S and tell everybody how special they are!

The GPak is a bit more than that. It also got the 202 engine, front disc brakes, a 4-speed gearbox & centre console.

About the only SL/R omissions were the suspension, door trims, timber tone dash facia & also glovebox & boot lights.

It was basically a clever sales package which combined several commonly ordered options & without the SL/R badges was much cheaper to insure.

In a buyers market

What would the price difference be

Lets say that instead of making a tribute SL/R you made a tribute G-Pac

Which would be seen as a better buying proposition ?

All things being equal on the build... engine , box , diff etc... its just a different stripe package basically

A tribute is just that a 'tribute'. Its value would depend on the quality & fit & finish of everything on the car.

To answer the question a 'tribute' GPak would probably worth the same as a 'tribute' SL/R, but a real SL/R would have to be worth more. This is even more so these days, how many original L20 SL/Rs are left that haven't been butchered with flares & a V8 conversion or made into a 'street machine' ?

2 cents worth..

Plus 4
G pak
SL/R (6)
then the V8s and high end cars.

Nothing has changed I think, even though G Paks are probably thinner on the ground, back in the day were the poor man' SL/R.

Plus 4 wasnt that a gutless POS couldn't have pulled the skin off a custard

It was like a 4-cyl version of the GPak. It was a Torana S 1900 with stripes. It didn't even get the instruments or the centre console.

Would rarity make the G Pack more valuable? Just a thought.....Assuming they have the same running gear of course.

Let me put it another way

I'm building a car... it will be a clean skin (no flares etc)... but will have 331 stroker , 5 speed ,4w discs. GTS style wheels, SL/R dash and steering wheel.

I'm stuck on whether to put SLR stripes... or G-pack stripes... or even no stripes at all.

Put it this way, i don't know anyone who would want to turn their SLR into a Slackpack.

You're likely to have one that you favour the most; do that one.

Something like that yes

If I was keeping the car...I'd go no stripes

But since I plan to sell it to help fund my SS resto... I'm looking for salability and resale value

All thing being equal.. its just a set of stripes +/or badges that going to be different.

I'm guessing buyers will probably prefer the SL/R wank

I like the plus 4 for its novelty value. I also think that Gpaks are awesome and underated if they came factory with a eight we would all be raving about them. Seen a HQ SS? basically a full size Holden version of the the G pack in my opinion except that the SS need a 253 as it was a larger car and was also testing the market for the 4 dore GTS, cheers Aaron.

Considering that the g-pak didn't come in Sable metalic, i think it would look wrong & drop your sale price anyway, so to me that points to the sl/r tribute, could look good with a brown coloured trim in that exterior colour too & a little bit different. I have a seen a green g-pak with flares, the blue stripes 8" & 10" hotwires & a polished bond drop tank, with a blacked out half cage to match the interior colour before & it looked really good with the blue stripes over the flares.

SL/R dash

If that includes an SL/R ashtray then you gotta continue with the SL/R theme

I'm stuck on whether to put SLR stripes... or G-pack stripes... or even no stripes at all.

If it's an LX, the SL/R's didn't have black stripes, only pinstriping.

Just an LH

And while it has a nice SL woodgrain dash... I'd happily paint it black for an SLR.... not that you can get SLR ashtrays for either
