Hey all, currently have A9X flares fitted but they are a little damaged and never been happy with the fitment.

I am considering replacing them with some L34 flares from Enricks since even tho I have 26x12" (305/45/15") tyres they do not fill the flares and there is about a 1" gap.

I know the holes are in a different location and I dont mind fitting new mounts but I dont suppose anyone knows if the L34 flares have the same "footprint" as in will they cover all the holes from the A9X flares?

Also does anyone know how much wider the A9X flares actually are compared to L34?

Thanks!

Sedan or hatch?

I believe all the sedan flares were originally the same between L34 & A9X and it was only the hatches that got the wider rear flares from new (I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong).

Although 40 years on, I wouldn't put very much faith in any replica flares being the same as the originals, or any other replicas. There's so many molds out there nowadays that it seems like no two sets are alike.

Those measurements are saying SLR with A9X flares are 70.5mm wider each side! but the Hatch is not as wide as the sedan by 12.5mm? I dont understand why that would be unless the Hatch A9X Flares and not as wide as the Sedan A9x

All I know is that's the info that is lodged on the Homologation forms.

Those measurements are saying the SL/R 5000 A9X flares are approx 35mm wider on each side than the SL/R 5000 L34 flares.

From this post: http://www.gmh-toran...e-8#entry764431

When the L34 was on the hoist I measured outside of flare to outside of flare:

Front  1770

Rear   1785

The front would seem to agree with CAMS but the rear is way off?

I'm not sure how accurate those CAMS measurements would be, the LX figures seem like they're 'to the nearest half inch', which doesn't exactly inspire confidence?

You'd need to know how those measurements were taken... was it two guys 'eying-it-off' with a tape measure, or something more technical? If it were me I'd used a plumb-bob to mark the floor, then move the car to measure, that should get you within a millimeter or so (and certainly closer than half an inch).

Those forms are filled out by GMH not CAMS.

Early build A9X sedans had L34 flares fitted until supply was exhausted.

The bolt holes between A9X and L34 are different, the bolt hole is at the base of the flare is on the leading edge on A9X, L34 is in the center at the base. Also have seen different manufacturers have bolt holes in varying positions, could be from mold to mold movement when copying? also you can be a mil or two out with a drill hole and it will cause the flare to twist or not sit right.

All front flares were the same from day one, A9X rears were wider as said above for the last of the A9X's. Hornett made wide rear hatch flares, he joined A9X four door with lower hatch parts to make his own mold.

I've yet to have a close look at an A9X sedan to compare, but the photos on the homologation documents show the A9X as not having as much metal cut out as the L34 so this could make a difference to where on the body the A9X flare was located.

Would have to have a good look at that Cams doc to compare, bit hard to tell, but there certainly is a fair bit cut out on Sedans with large flares.

I had the same issue and replaced my A9X Flares with a new set of L34 Flares form Ernicks. In my case the bolt holes were all covered by the new L34 Flares but I couldn't confirm this until I had the new Flares in my hand and could physically check them. Unfortunately I think you might not be able to check this until you buy a set and compare. The good news is the Ernick Flares fit and look great, spend the time to align and fit properly and you'll be happy with the result.

Having looked at a Group C Hatch very closely, the cut out of the original panel work was pretty extensive.

It included the entire lip at the front of the wheel arch.

That may be why the cut out looks different in the pictures.

The wheel tub had no lip between it and the external metal.

This cutout wasnt possible on the sedan because the flare stopped short of the bottom.

Hope my words have described it enough to work out what I mean.
