Can someone please tell me which bolt the headlight ground wire goes into.
Playing around with some wiring today one of my projects for the day.

Also having another go at cutting the hole in the bonnet.
It still touched the air filter after I cleaned it up last time.
Took it off to do it right, did it on the car last time which wasn’t that bad for cutting. Sucked for marking out.

So bonnet has been cut out once more.
It had originally been cut like 35mm towards the front.
Which makes it look 70mm out of wack.
So cut a big 340mm moon shaped part out of the bonnet Moving the hole rear wards 40mm.
Then tac welded the bonnet braces to the hood skin.
The melted paint is hidden by the cowl scoop so it’s all good 😬

Also got tail lights and brake lights now.
Would have headlights but I still need to ground the headlight bulb.
The factory ground is a 5/16 round lug. I’m assuming bonnet adjustment rubbers thingos is ground for headlight?????
Should probably google it rather than post jibberish on here.
Also learnt I don’t have one of the headlight relays which it appears is unique to LX torana.
Anyone got one they wanna sell???

I will have a look at mine tonight for the ground wire.

The Bosch relay is also used on 12V Beetles.

Thanks for the tip on the relay.
I’ll look on eBay.
If you could take a look and let me know that would be great.

It’s probably easier to do the UC stalk but I don’t wanna
They fat and ugly.

Mufflers $50 gumtree
Pipe $30 macs mufflers Brendale.

I have never done this before. So please don’t burn me too hard.
If I keep up this kind of welding I’ll be grinding for days to clean it up.
More practice needed.

Well done mate, the hardest part is having a go. You will get it done and be better for having a crack.

Just try a bit more heat in those welds Mick, or slow the wire speed down a bit.

Bevel the edges of the pipes too, gives the weld a nice valley and more surface area to weld to.

Got a bit better on the 2nd one.
Still took 10-15 min to clean em both up with a grinder.
Really need a TIG to weld these up neatly. As mentioned beveling the pipes more would help heaps with strength.
I’m pretty confident I got good weld down though.
I’m trying to do it neat enough that it can stay permanently.

Hopefully get the muffler welded to the pipe later tonight.
Again really only temporary but if it works out well it may stay.

G'day Mick, sorry to ask such an obvious question, and it may just be the angle of the photos, but that looks like it hangs down way lower than the bottom of the chassis rail, have you checked how much ground clearance you have with the car on the ground?

Ye mate they do sit low. I had to go low to clear gearbox crossmember.
However i did leave a good knuckle of clearance between the gearbox crossmember and the pipe so could have tucked it in a little tighter there.
The mufflers situated behind the gearbox Xmember have to sit low so the handbrake cables have clearance between themselves and the mufflers also could have done some more piecut bends to tuck the muffler back up under the car more. But that was a lot of work so didn’t do it.
The car currently sits quite high So ground clearance isn’t an issue at present.
Once I lower the car in the future then exhaust ground clearance will be the problem of a professional, unless I get a hoist and significantly better at welding.

So got a bit more done tonight.
I’m not even going to take a pic of those welds. Let’s just say I got another 10min grinding practice.
Grind em back and paint em black.

Slow progress when it gets cold.
I’m in north Side Brisbane and it’s too cold at night to go up the shed for a couple hours.
Don’t know how any of you southerners get anything done at night after work.

So progress hasn’t changed much.

Auto is leaking out of the speedo drive so got it jacked up to look at that.

Managed to get the engine to run without belching all the coolant out the radiator filler, that happened 3 times before I pulled the guts out of the thermostat.

The temporary mufflers shut it up a fair bit. So more confident the neighbors won’t call the authorities.

Got wiring loom and fuse box all laid and mounted in the car.
Have run extra wires between Wiper/washer, fans and headlights and switches
And extra engine wires to dash area.

Headlights and tail lights, indicators and brake lights all work.
Horn works. Just need to graft the loom to the steering column harness for all that to work properly.
Thermos turn on and off.

Still gotta source a headlight relay, washer bottle/pump, park light bulb holders for the H4.
Still need power source for the boot light.
Hand brake switch wire
Brake proportioning valve switch wires
Number plate light
The interior light power run made me start looking through workshop manuals online.
, thought I could get it up the B pillar but no luck there.
Run it up the A pillar just doesn’t seem right.
I’m taking my time so I don’t forget anything, lol that’s my excuse for being lazy.
