Hey all, So trying to get my LH engineered here in Tasmania.

Engineer says that Tas Transport lists the A9X front track as 1400mm, I showed him a few posts from here which site references to various books with front track as wide as 1470mm but he says it doesnt matter, he has to go by what Tas Trans list :(

So currently im at 1470mm Track at ride height. Pulled my front wheels off and current wheels are 15x8 with +7mm offset (more likely to be 1/4" being imperial wheels) so to get it down to 1425mm I need to get +30mm wheels...

Now my first issue is this is going to look spastik on a Torana with flares for one....

Next issue is I contacted Show wheels who said most classic wheels only go up to +15-20

Oh btw Im running HQ Stud pattern and need minimum 15" wheels to clear the brakes... Does anyone know if any stock HQ-WB wheels are 15" with +30 offset? or of any aftermarket wheels that might suit?

Obviously don't want to spend too much on wheels I'll only be using for rego so makes it abit difficult

Hi

I have 15x6 +25 on mine, They are Steel "smoothies" dual stud pattern Holden hq/ ford Look ok on an un flared uc but I dont think they will work with flairs . They can be made to any offset by several places around here (Adelaide) There is also several places listed on ebay that will do custom steel wheels. I could not find any alloy wheels with bigger offsets.

SA rego use this PDF for track. It shows the max allowed here and is a government doc. May not sway the engineer but who knows.

Might be a silly question but what have you done to your Torana to get it so far away from standard?

AFAIK Tasmania is using the NCOP for light vehicle mods aren't they?

If you've replaced the diff, for example with a shortened Ford 9", then it goes by the diff manufacturer's track measurements, minus the amount it was shortened, plus the 25mm allowance, it no longer has anything to do with the standard Torana specs.

Just looking through my notes and there are so many different figures floating around it's crazy. I don't expect your engineer will take any notice of anything you show him/her, but my list includes:

LX RTS S & SL (Source: LX Torana owners manual):

Track Front: 54.9" (1395mm)
Track Rear:  54.0" (1372mm)

LX RTS SL/R & SS (Source: LX Torana owners manual):

Track Front: 55.3" (1405mm)

Track Rear:  54.4" (1382mm)

L34 (Source: "Holden Torana Performance Handbook", Eric Blair, 1993, pages 64 & 65 - confirmed by GMH Service Bulletin for L34):

Track Front: 57.89" (1470.4mm)

Track Rear:  56.82" (1443.2mm)

A9X (version 1 - Source: "45 Years of Holden", Terry Bebbington and Michael Malik, 1994, pages 93 & 96):

Track Front: 57.2" (1452.88mm)
Track Rear:  56.1" (1424.94mm)

A9X (version 2 - Source: "60 Years of Holden", Terry Bebbington, page 338 - Basically the same figures as L34):

Track Front: 57.9"  (1470.7mm)
Track Rear:  56.82" (1443.2mm)

A9X (version 3 - Source: Just Holdens Toranas Collectors Series. A9X Edition, page 23):

Track Front: 59.5" (1511.3mm)
Track Rear:  57.1" (1450.3mm)

You used to be able to buy steel rims and centres separately from Repco. They came unpainted. I bought a set of 14 x 8" ones for a HT I had once. Pretty sure any size rim was available. Then I had an engineering shop in town put them in a lathe and fit the centres at the offset I wanted. They checked them for run out and welded them into place. Maybe a reputable specialist wheel supplier can help. From memory they weren't very dear.

My local fab shop have done a couple of sets for me. A set of 15" pursuits and a set of Sunraysia rims for the Landcruiser. Stick 'em in a lathe, cut the welds, move centre in, and weld them back up again. You can even buy blank 15" rims that step in so they can be welded onto 14" centres. They are about 80 bucks each.

Depends if you just want to get it registered I guess.
Weld wheels do have some wheels in the bigger offsets.
There are others, but most are modern styles and don’t look that great on a Torana.
I had some custom steel wheels made for mine. Just had them re-set to the offset I wanted.

The engineers tend to stick to the books published, but maybe ring around and find someone more open to the other sources?

If your having problems just because the wheels are too
wide go somewhere else bud.honestly every friggin
engineer, rta should know by now you will just go home
change the things, take it back and it passes.
Ive been pulled over few times and drive mine most days
and have never had a problem..mine is 30mm over at front
and 10 at rear going by him..but he said those wheels
wernt on it when you brought it in.wink wink.and this is
in Tas in 2015..
Give Adam a ring at ac engineering concepts.he doesnt
have to answer to anyone.if he can pass it he will.
HE talks to the technical officer Malcolm Cooper
at state growth.so hes pretty well up there..

Engineer says that Tas Transport lists the A9X front track as 1400mm ?

not going by this https://www.transpor...ov.au/?a=108622 , the list is for the maximum but still works out more than 1400mm stock

maybe time for a new engineer ?

Out of all the engineers telling me i cant have a
rear chassis clip, hes the guy who has talked to Mal
and has mentioned he cant see a reason why not, then
wont pass one because of wheels.lol..basic shit..
