I’m interested to hear more about this as well.
Have the wind-in type and find it to be unreliable.

Depends how often you use it.
Those warren brown ones are good, if your just a hobbyist and only use it on occasion, then it will be fine, wouldnt bother updating in a hurry alot of older mechanics still use them, i have a small version which is great for some things.

The LED beeping ones(display style) are good if your a mechanic and using it regularly, some of these also do angles not just ftpds/nm's so very handy on modern engines, snap on make a really good one, yes it is very expensive, like i said if you use it lots it can be worth it.

I’d be getting the Warren & Browns calibration checked & sticking with it if ok. They were always the ones I borrowed cose I couldn’t afford them 😞 Since it was something that I didn’t use very often when I did need one I ended up buying screw type😞 Always dubious about its consistency but always make sure to undo when not used. If I had a WB I’d check it before I’d look at others but haven’t looked for many years now at what’s available . What does your mechanic use?

I'd stick with the W&B. Just get the calibration checked.
I have mine that was given to me as a present in the mid 1970's. Had thecalibration checked about 10 years ago and it was still pretty accurate.
So the old W&B would be my go to.

Will try and track down a person to calibrate the one i have. The socket or keyway looks like it's had a heap of use as it's a bit burred. I googled the company and they are still around and their website still stocks the beam type.

Jagged this one on ebay for 25 bucks ;

thanks

funny the engine builder today still uses his WB

Grant

Still in service!

Just need to supplement it with one with lower settings e.g. 1 > 20 ft ibs.

Grant, you can buy that square drive as a seperate part if required, most other parts as well. Hard to beat a Warren&Brown.
