So today in my morning change, not having seen one for a long time, I scored a Chuck and Di 50 cent piece in my change.

Kinda creepy.

Does not bode well....

Thank f_ck this wedding is over with because really who give a flying f_ck? (No offense rexy, the coin thing is amusing)
How does this crap have any bearing on us whatsoever.
I sit down to watch the news as I do every night. Lead story?- a pompous royal wedding on the other side of the world.
A man died here locally in a crash, 10 dead in another American school shooting but no, no, running commentary of what Harry, meghan and co. had for breakfast, when they scratched themselves and other mind boggling boring crap. And this is news? God help us.

Maybe they thought.... since we are part of the commonwealth that the people might be interested

I wasn't... didn't watch any of it... I have no interest in it so didn't let it impact my life in any way... just like AFL

Agree not my cup of tea.
But some people like that kind stuff.
The missus was watching it last night when I came down from the shed. Told her to turn that shi+ off.
Then we watched The Shining

Some people think spending counless hours and dollars restoring and modifying cars is a wast of time and money.

So to each his own.

Why are we part of the commonwealth ?

Thats how this country started

Its been voted on before and the people chose to remain

Nowadays... who knows

But seems not many really give a shit about the country they live in anyway

What a wedding simply the best wedding ever.    :wtf: :stirpot:

The best part was it didn't involve me and gave me another excuse to keep the tv off and work on the cars.

Countering your question.

Why does it matter if we are or aren't?

It has no bearing on our governing, we essentially run as a free state 99% of the time.

It does, however, provide us with a certain level of safety if one party was to ever become so powerful that they controlled all levels of government, state and federal and all houses etc.

The cost of becoming a republic is huge and provides zero benefit (economic or otherwise) to any of us.

The only reason anyone seems to have is because it's old, I don't like the queen or the royal family etc etc.

That's not a reason to waste billions.

Good on those who got married.

It didnt hurt anyone who wasnt involved, so cant see why some tend to get upset about it.

Everyone had the choice to change the channel.

I watch Fox Netflix and Stan.

No problem avoiding it.

The royal family is a great tradition.

Its part of where we came from as a country.

At the moment I wouldnt like it replaced.

Imagine what might fill the hole left for Queens Birthday and such.

Something some leftard greenie likes?

Something to further our descent into a non christian type environment?

It works.

It isnt broken.

It doesnt need fixing.

Unless someone said we become the next state of USA.

Then that might bring on some benefits.

A couple of things I noticed from the wedding on the various news replays did come to my attention however: 1. What a long driveway Windsor Castle has. With a slight downhill on it, it could be good for clutch starts or quarter mile drags? 2. Such a long driveway would entail a big task each week putting out the wheelie bins!! 3. Why was the newly Wed's E Type Jag a left hand drive car? (Uk drives same side of road as us in Oz)? Just what I noticed ....!!!

The UK is RHD but it allows LHD to be licensed.

You can buy new LHD vehicles from dealerships in the UK.

^^^ THIS!

FFS, who cares what a bunch of rich, pompous A-holes do?

And the idea of a hereditary head of state is mindbogglingly dumb in this day and age.
