SuperCrap stock them. Repco will probably have them also.

thanks gents - but they rarely go down to the 4.5 mm - 5 ishmm area - the calipers on car are volvo and have a somewhat " sweedish" nipple and it'a s bit finicky with the sizing.

most only go to 6mm and the sweeds do a bit lower - the brake is a ATA brake apparently

I need to get some engine oil for the change over the weekend and will check with repco -

I have snapped one off before in the early days of hte car and had to get it - sparke eroded out of the caliper

KC Tools have a 6 piece Flare nuts spanner set but only goes down to 6mm.

Just to clarify, is the spanner needed for the bleeder nipple or the brake line flare nut?

Hydraulic shops will stock the nipple's grant, enzed ect, match the thread & put a af imperial head on it if you can, 1/4" is roughly, 6.35mm i got a set from the tool shop 1/4" to 5/8" i think they were. Or simply cut a groove in a ring spanner Simples !

the brake line tube O.D. size on the Torana is 4mm,

so Volvo would be close.

The nut would be 1/4 inch A/F me thinks question.gif

bleeder nipple and its really close to 4+ mm I will get the verniers out tomorrow and check  - sorry should have said this earlier gents - but also need for the brake lines as well,'

the issue is that these really need the full three face spanner or four corner to work and not strip or burr over. really don't see any for sale on fle bay as old used either.

could  just buy a sidchrome one and cut the end out of it, that may be easier

Available at bunnings.
Not sure if they go that small.

Why do you need the end cut out for a bleeder nipple?

Stanley Facom 4mm  6 point ring/open end spanner on ebay. Bit spensive though.

Give the nipple/flare nut a tap to the left, then a tap to the right with a hammer and punch on the flats then you'll almost undo it with your fingers.

I usually use a "GOOD" shifter on these occasions as you can tighten them exactly to suit the hex.

NA ment to say " cut the end out of the ring spanner so that i can slip over the brake line and then lower onto the nipple "

good tip Rodo - like that bit of extra persuasion

Put the ring spanner over the bleeder nipple then push your bleeder tube onto the nipple.

I would have thought that would just be what everyone would naturally do to Dave. & a wide cutting disc on the grinder of a 6 point spanner if you couldn't find a pipe spanner.

Brake pipes and bleeders are a "percussion" seal like used in plumbing. The rely on the "tapered" seal to seal correctly. How do you loosen a tapered ball joint or tie rod end?...………...with percussion!

NEVER in over 40 years as a plumber have I ever heard the word 'Percussion' used to describe the sealing method of any flared or compression type plumbing fittings, that is until now! :)
