Hello Members,

My Wb ute has some loose steering. I watched a video on youtube were a guy used Windshield Adhesive to replace the rubber cup connection point that works similar to a engine mount.

I tried to google WB steering column exploded view but wasn't sure if the rubber cup was used in the WB.

Also seen there is an adjustment screw under a clamp, hope to have a look Sunday but probably be next wend as working Saturday and don't think I will get it all done.

Bunning is on the way :). 3M Windshield Weld :)

Hi Ray.  Not exactly sure what you are referring to but had a look at the parts catalogue and can't see any rubber cup type connections, or an adjustment screw.  If you can give me a bit more detail I'll have a closer look.  Cheers Ron

Hi Ray.  I had a look at the vid but I don't think there are any connections like that in the WB, but I could be wrong.  The only place, if there was such a thing, would be in the steering column itself.  As to adjustment screw, the only one I have is at the steering box.  From what I've read in the past the main issue in the column tends to be the upper and lower bushes but it appears these are not easy to replace and work effectively without some form of adhesion.  When I put my steering back in I got a friend to move the steering wheel back and forth whilst I held the shaft in the engine bay, until I worked out where the play was coming from.  In my case it was from the box and the lower part of the intermediate shaft.  Sorry I couldn't help further but someone will have an answer for you.  Cheers Ron

Hey Guys, I was fixing the window wipers tonight. Seized FFS but sure it will be working this year. Had a chance to look at the steering. The rubber closest to the power steering has a lot of movement up and down and side to side. Does this sound like its rooted ? are they hard to change ?

Cheers Dave, Once I get the wipers done, I better replace it. Between work and fixing cars there is no time left in the day. This Frocking WB ute is killing me. Its done mostly country Kays and dirt roads. Things full of dirt from arsehole to breakfast. Thinking I should place a letter box on it as it seems to be my new address. Rainman

Have been playing with this on and off for a week. Today I decided to compare them. Pic 1 = Taken Off / Pic 2= Replacement / Pic 3 Both Pivots. Car was originally a six and now V8. So I ordered the one for the V8 and doesn't want to fit. Thank you in advance for any help .     Rainman

The larger internal diameter is for power steering, the smaller for armstrong. Ignore any catalogue that says V8 and 6 are different, just get one to suit the steering box you have. Often these days you don't get the whole assembly just the rubber donut and some bolts, you drill the original rivets out and use the bolts instead.

Thanks :), I didn't even know there was a Armstrong unit. But it makes sense. I will pull the vernier caliper out :).

"Armstrong" as in not power steer (you need strong arms)

Wise guy Ah, lol . Have been so busy I havnt had a chance to get back to the Armstrong unit. There were alarm bells ringing but I did believe you. Thinking it had something to do with different gear ratio to ease the steering. Think I will have to give you a like for that one, but payback is lurking and revenge will one day be mine lol. After you to Koalasprint lol

There is a bit of an angle at the joint, its not perfectly straight. Shouldn't bind though, might loosen up a little yet?

If the box itself is tight/loose as it turns you may have nipped up the adjustment a bit much.

Think I might be 180 deg out on the steering shaft, the one I drilled out (the fixed ones) I might have placed in the holes instead of the gaps. Could this cause my steering issue ?
