Plenty of brand new R154 boxes from Toyota dealers and the like on eBay etc.
Prices are around the $3k mark, give or take.

They are a bulky box.

I could never find a comprehensive package, box and conversion so I gave up

I have a 355 with 400RWHP, 9 inch and 295 rear tyres. I went with a brand new Muncie M22Z Rockcrusher.

No probs at all and will handle way more than I will ever throw at it.

I have a bit of a write up about it here, just check out my other posts

Have you looked into a tr3650? As used in ba boss v8 Falcons and Mustangs in the states.

Hi Guys, sorry to dig up an old thread but had anyone used one of these?
Hard to find any info on them being used in a Torry.
On a second note, cab anyone tell by the pics if this is a T5 or a tr3650?
I'd like to go the R154 option but it just seems so pricey. I'm looking for a good cruiser that won't be excessively hammered around but I want to take it on long drives too so reliability is a big factor. Unfortunately so is budget! 8db75ff85f1d4fe6d568c7c1e95095bb.jpgd797e7c1dafb57b153fdca56befc9cec.jpg

Definitely not a T5. I think the TR3650 is kind of the predecessor to the TKO, aside from not having any top cover plates the main housing does look similar. Bell housing availability could be an issue.

Looks like a 3650, maybe from a BA ford.

Talk to Jeff Dellow about a bellhousing.

Not much in the way of conversions he hasnt done.

I was looking at a box years ago, Tremec from memory.

I wasnt the first to talk to him about it, and he convinced me to look at something else.

He recently made a one off bellhousing for me to hook the LS1 and Dyna 5 speed together in my tilt tray.

If it can be done, he is the man to talk to.

Cheers

Rob

Thanks fellas, yeah I couldn't find any bellhousings which is why I was hesitant. Missed out on it now anyway so back on the hunt.
And yes it was from a BA, good pick!
Cheers

Kinda surprised that hadn't been done before.

I would've thought Coasters had the same box as Dynas and I'm sure I've heard of people LSing Coasters before.

Think it had something to do with the shift set up.

Dyna is a tilt cab where the coaster isnt.

Even with the box and existing bellhousing at his factory, there were still a couple key features that werent quite right.

One I expected, as I had to drop the box down a bit because the engine didnt fit at the normal height relative to driveline.

Had to drop the cross member close to 50mm.

Manifold clearance took a bit to sort out, and even the clearance for the back of one of the heads was an issue.

Didnt get the bolt up for the slave cylinder quite right either, but went for a hydraulic throw out bearing instead.

Wouldnt have been too hard to fix that problem while I had the MIG out, but had been thinking of going to hydraulic throw out early in the conversion.

It just made the decision for me in the end.

Cheers

Ok I'm still confused. Help please!
Found this BorgWarner T5, has a July 92 date stamp but when I run the serial prefix in this website I was referred to, it comes up as an 84 mustang box which if I'm not mistaken would make it pre-world class?.. granted the website is a yank one.
I'll likely have it rebuilt anyway but want to make sure it'll be a decent base.
The bellhousing looks turbo?
Advice always appreciated legends!d3bffad7ccf151c5f6a2da9934f3c43a.jpg434fd316674dc8cb00d3bcd5020e1d85.jpgfa2c094c4572fd1caf4dc5fcfa318f57.jpg

This case is also used in some WC S-10's
13-52-065-922* 96+ World Class Ford & GM - With and without the reverse spring anchor
This case is used in Mustangs, Camaros and S-10s

Housings noted with "*" can have the fill plug in either the higher location for Ford and S-10 or the lower location for the Camaro/Firebird. (The Camaro/Firebird is tilted requiring a lower fill plug location) <photo needed>

The -921 and -922 housings may or may not have the spring anchor for the cantilever spring used in most of the newer fifth/reverse shift linkages. Generally 92-94 versions have a hex bolt for this anchor and beginning around 95 this anchor is smooth and round.

Thanks heaps dattoman.
Now I guess I just have to have a measure of the input shaft length to see if it's a 6 or an 8 box, that's the only real way to tell yeah?
Happy New Year!
