Hi guys, I'm about to finalise the purchase of my new(old) Torana.. L32 M40 LH S 12/75.. I'm a bit excited!!

I've committed a substantial(ridiculous) sum to buying it and before I hand the cash over I would like to confirm that the car is infact his to sell..

Is there a simple way to do this? I have VIN and Chassis No..

Cheers

I had a look at that but it seems to require the 17 digit VIN from post 89 cars..

Dan, ring VicRoads and see if they can give you any info based on the numbers you have.  Even if you can find an old rego number may help. Cheers Ron

Thanks Ron.. Did the PPSR check for both the Chassis/ADR and the VIN and neither report certificate had any record relating to the car.. The report indicates that seeing "no NEVDIS data is returned for the serial number you entered" on the report cert may mean that "the vehicle has never or not recently been registered".. whatever not recently means..

current owner advises he bought it 4 yrs ago as a project and has no record of previous rego..

I guess no record is better than stolen or encumbered..

I asked my old man this (car salesman) when I bought mine.
Basically said can’t encumber an unregistered vehicle.
So you can’t finance a unregistered vehicle.
Revs check didn’t show much.

Id be more cconcerned about the the ID plates not belonging to the body. Seems to be plenty of that happening lately.

You'd have to question the motivation behind restamping a body to create an 'S' LH Torana..
