Congrats on the hatch find! (And the shed)
Nothing there that can't be fixed but hopefully it came with a whole heap more parts, otherwise the parts would cost more than the car if you had to buy it all.

Yeah you may want to get your engineer to brush up on the NCOP, with a replacement axle (such as a ford 9 inch) the Torana specs no longer apply.
As per Page 44/LS80 of NCOP11 Section LS Suspension and Steering V2.1 15Nov2015 (available for download here):
Specifically the "based on the specifications of the axle components used" part. You need to go off the specs for the car the diff came out of, and who's to say what that was so take your pick...
The last Ford Fairlane/LTD/Marquis made in Australia to have a 9" diff was the ZH (the last model before they went to the square XD look).
All ZH Marquises built after January 1979 had Borg-Warner differentials instead of the Ford 9-inch.
ZA/ZB Rear Track = 58.0" (1473mm) (source: https://www.uniqueca..._specifications)
XW/XY & ZC/ZD Rear Track = 58.5" (1486mm) (source: https://www.uniqueca..._specifications)
XA/XB/XC & ZF/ZG/ZH Rear Track = 60.0" (1524mm) (source: https://www.uniqueca..._specifications)
The 1984/85 F100 all had a rear track = 64.4" (1636mm)
All minus the amount the diff was shortened of course.
BTW, I don't expect an engineer would accept those website specs, they will likely have a list of their own issued by your DOT, so you'll have to find out what their specs are first.
EDIT: Note that the above are Track measurements not diff width measurements, I don't have any notes on standard ford diff widths but it wouldn't be hard to work out if we had the rim offsets for each of the above?

Full floating rear end will give you 25mm per side, or used to in qld.
What about a 9" conversion with Banjo tubes and wheel bearings, L34 spec plus 12mm??? It is after all the original fitted part?
Just a couple of passing thoughts for some homework...

So what is the definition of "axle"? Is it the centre pumpkin, or the tubes, or the drive axles themselves, or the flange & bearing assemblies?
What about a MacDonald Bros sheet metal housing with all Strange Engineering internals, who's the manufacturer then? It could only be MB or Strange and neither have track measurements to reference.
The NCOP misses the point completely, there is way more to consider than just the size of the wheels.
The relationship between the front & rear track has implications on braking and handling, specifically whether the vehicle tends toward over-steer or under-steer, but it's also about maintaining the distribution of weight across the inner & outer wheel bearings (or drive axle & bearing) on each wheel, and the load on wheel studs & other suspension components (the wider the offset, the more leverage weight has), and then any steering axle has the scrub radius to consider as well.
It's silly just to specify a blanket value of 25mm per axle without considering all the other factors. This is where the engineer earns his or her money, and any good engineer will only use the NCOP as a guideline (notice how often the word "recommended" is used).
