Hi all, i have 2 doors that have suffered the same fate. The part of the door where the bottom hinge mounts has completely rusted through so i have a hole roughly 4 inches square where the hinge should mount!. Are they repairable or should i just try to get another door. Ive seen doors for $400, thats about 5hrs @ $80 (labour rate ) to repair one. Would it take longer than 5 hours to repair my existing one ( hinge repair only ) Just curious

I do welding repairs myself and not an expert so take a while to get it right

but to cut out and replace a 4 inch section unless shaped shouldn't take 5 hours

would like to see pic to make sure of what's needed

Phil, I'm no expert but looks like a bit more work than just the hinge section. Someone on here was/is making the bottom corner section, which should assist but not sure of the price.  I would think there would be very few doors that don't have some degree of rust in that section and if not, you will pay for them.  Not sure where you are located but maybe take the door on a trip to a reputable panel shop (or someone on here could recommend someone) and see if they can't give you a price once they see it.  Cheers Ron

From what I've seen of your car, and the way you keep referring to labour rates, I can only assume that you can't do this yourself? Might be time to look for another project?

I get where your coming from. We all have different reasons for doing what we do. I can do basic bodywork, but am much more mechanicals and electricals. I realise this is a big project, im an electrical estimator, hence always checking hours and costs. Im time poor so happy to pay for body work.

Like Gene said gotta be a lot more economical to get another door mate,

you might fix it if it was a hatch door but 4 door ones aren't that rare.
