I'm getting occasional wheel scrubbing after an upgrade to larger tyres and diff shortening. The wheels fit fine but occasionally the diff moves to the drivers side and it scrubs on the back passenger side wheel. What's the best way to solve this?

I expect a Watt's linkage will solve your problem.

Are all your diff bushes in good nick. Does it only do it 1 side?

Firstly it looks like you are using standards upper and lower control arms? are all your bushes in good condition? Is the lower arm boxed.

Secondly you could buy adjustable control arms and try and moved the diff slightly back. They may also be slightly stiffer and the diff may not move side to side as easily.

Thirdly "not recommended" could you put a spacer between the wheel and the hub to move the wheel slightly out. This may make the wheel scrub on the outside though.

These are all just suggestions I have an LJ torana and the right rear wheel scubs on the outside and I went with a different profile tyre to minimise.

No to the watts linkage on a standard torana, dont work with standard rear ends.
It is something you need to account for when buying wheels and tyres.
Small spacer behind the wheel is probably the simplest and easiest way, if made properly there is no issue with them.
The spacer should locate on the centre spigot and the wheel should locate also on a spigot.

If everything else is in good condition and if it doesn’t bother you too much, give the offending area some extra clearance by moving the metal.

The diff sits naturally to the drivers side a little it seems and it only does it on one side

Jack it up and put axle stands under the diff.
Loosen ALL upper and lower control arm bolts.
Without pushing it off the axle stands (ouch) push on the side of the body (towards the side where its scrubbing)as far as it will go.
Whilst held there (wooden blocks would be best? between the tyre and the wheel arch?)tighten ALL the control arm bolts.

Might be enough?

I think its recommended you torque control arm bolts with the car not jacked and in its natural stance.

Tubular control arms will fix it .

Those stock arms have a phenomenal amount of flex.

Thanks for all the feedback. I pretty much had to do all the suggestions :)

2 bushes needed to be replaced. I tried to center the diff but it didn't want to budge. I used a spacer and gave the offending area some massaging.

Its much better now but I think I will eventually upgrade the control arms to tubular if I can find where to get them.
