Hey all, for those with big cams and poor vacuum, has anyone fitted a Alternator from a Diesel engine that has a built in Vac pump?
Anyone know a suitable model that will fit?

NOPE, but I did toy with the idea some 8 plus years ago, I lost interest when I realised the alternator I collected needed an oil pressure feed, then I wondered what the pump would think being spun at more RPM, or should I do a custom pulley for it to be able to have the RPM correct, and that was that.
I ended up using an electric Hella UP28 series pump.
If you do it I'd like to see some pics!

some of the alloy tech engines in ve commies have an elec vac pump on the front of the engine

Ahh ok, Didnt realise they needed a oil feed and drain too... Standalone electric pump would be much easier then.
Do you also need a Vacuum tank?

Wouldn't be that hard to take an oil feed off a T-piece from the oil pressure sender and weld a drain bung/tube into the sump, but you would have to be careful to restrict the feed as the sender is located before the oil flows into the engine, you wouldn't want to starve the engine just to feed a vacuum pump!
There may well be a restriction in the pump from the factory though, have a look where in the circuit the oil is fed from on the original diesel engine, if it also comes straight out of the pump you would probably be okay doing the same?
On the plus side, diesel alternators are usually a fairly high amperage.
On the minus side, the vacuum pump adds a lot to the overall size of the unit, you may have trouble in a Torana engine bay?
