I would say large wheels would hit elsewhere first. What size are you using and what offset?

Doesn’t seem to be an issue on the LJ.

No I don’t.

But.

Looking at the wheel arc on the LJ I suspect that like others have suggested, you would probably hit other stuff with athe tyre well before that spot became an issue. It’s kinda in the corner outside of the arc created by the tyre edge.

With the steering on full lock as above there is heaps of clearance as below.

I couldn’t fit a tyre big enough to hit it if I wanted to.

That’s a 195/50/15 with P76 discs to bring the wheel inwards an inch.

You could roll the front end under your car and test fit a wheel to be sure where the tyre edge arc goes?

great stuff cheers, this gives somewhat of a slight increase confidence.

and yes fitment will have to be the plan, once i get the tires fitted to the rims this still after the brakes and rotor change out is complete.

so a little way away yet.

cheers for the pics and the time to take them

I have the same chassis kit and my wheels clear it, have only driven the car about 450m with the chassis kit installed and went round 3 corners and reversed parked into a garage

My tyres are 205-55-16 but are not on the car right now, will try put them on next weekend and get some pics

I got it on my LH, have not noticed the wheels getting anywhere near it, hits the spot welded seam on the body before it gets close to that, I had to trim the flange back.

I’ve had the CRS chassis kit in my LX for 15+ years. Have run all sorts of wheel and tyre combos on the front (fat and skinny) and never had any issues.

had you done and firewall mods, what combos have you run? all 50 series?

The only firewall mod on my car was the standard removal of that spot welded seam, as most people do. I never went any further than that.

Way back when I had Torana brakes, I ran 14x8’s with 225/60’s.

Then went HQ brakes, and started with 14x7’s (can’t remember tyre sizes), and currently 15x4’s with 165/80’s. At full lock the current tyres can scrub the firewall (just) but don’t touch the chassis kit.

Put my wheels on and had a look, it doesn't touch but it is close.

I have UC upper control arms which would set the wheel slightly back I think.

The bolt passes through with a little push and is an M6, that is on full lock

If it was an issue I would cut an angled corner off the box section and weld a piece on

thanks for the time you have taken, f*k that is close, full lock and a slight curb or speed bump may be a minor issue ( negligible) but clearance is clearance

looks to be that if you were to run 225/60r15 =25.6'     it may be an issue

cheers

And ^^ that's with a 205/55R16, which has a reasonably small overall diameter of 24.8"

As Jonesy says, even an extra ½" diameter would make it rub, that severely limits the range of tyres you can fit. Although you're not likely to be doing many knots with the steering on full lock, I still reckon it's too close.

Can you take the corner off the square tube and cap it off again, you may gain an inch or so doing that?

i think that would be a good option, too close for comfort- i have to do a mock fit on the front end again soon so i might check it all then and take off exactly what i need.

cheers, hope this helps other as well

I am planning on getting an alignment and suspension adjustment soon, once that is done I will consider cutting the corner off and capping it as it could end up closer and need more cut off
