Hi,

Was wondering if someone could show me pics of where on the LC/LJ these parts go. In my misguided youth, I threw some of these away thinking they did nothing. Later reflection is, they probably do something.

The smaller ones (top pic) go up near the headlights. The bigger ones go rear of the tyre/wheel.

Thanks for that guys, I just couldn’t picture where the smaller one went.

I am all for keeping dirt out of places. But I can’t help but wonder what purpose the GTR flutes serve if they are blocked off by the inner liner or, are they removed on the GTR’s?

The flutes are just for aesthetic purposes basically.

I have thought a lot about whether the guard flutes are functional or not and I have a theory! It goes a bit like this.

In order to suck air into your mouth you get a faster air flow if you close your mouth into a small hole, think sucking milk through a straw. In Toranas you have a small round hole behind the water deflector (Usually attached to the bonnet hinge) at the back of the engine bay that leads from there into the space inside the guard that the flutes lead to. So if the inner rear panel (Splash panel) is fitted and its seal is ok how does it all work? As you drive, air rushing past the guard flutes create a vacuum inside the guard causing hot air inside the engine bay to be sucked through the small hole at the back corner of the engine bay into the inner guard and out through the flutes. I reckon this could be tested by creating smoke in the engine bay and driving down the road and seeing if it does indeed get sucked out the flutes. What do you al think?

My 2 cents,

I thought I once heard about 30 years ago from Harry or someone that the XU1 front spoiler is to help deflect air toward the front brakes, then removing the splash guard panel helps the air exit through the flutes.

Not an exact science but any little bit helped under racing conditions. Harry would always tell his drivers not to use the brakes.

Most common people removed the splash guard because of the build up of dirt and grit behind it that helped promote rust in the lower front guard and almost never put back after a rust repair.

Flutes do nothing at all.just for looks.
The hole behind drip rails is spose to b
a jig hole or alignment hole during assembly..

Pretty sure someone started a thread on this awhile back.

Maz, I think Marty used a rubber extrusion like this from Clark Rubber.

This one is classed as 7mm https://www.clarkrub...sion-22mm-x-7mm

This one is 14mm https://www.clarkrub...nel-29mm-x-14mm
