I've got an old Trimatic with a manual kickdown. Can I change it to an elec one?

I suppose anything's possible but I think it'd be easier to swap the whole trans for a later version.

The case and the valve body would be different at the very least.

Cheers. I'm just struggling for room. I've got a Vo efi 202 in my LC. My supercharger piping runs over the top of the rocker cover and leaves enough room for the throttle but the kickdown cable which I think goes above will not make it cos the pipes in the way. I'll see if I can do anything else.
Is the vacuum enough for kickdown or is manualising it my only option if I don't use the kickdown cable?

I think the vacuum to the modulator more controls the timing of up-shifts, as in how much load is on the engine and how long it should hang in a gear.

I remember a mate driving 30-odd kms home one night in 2nd because the vacuum line fell off the modulator and the transmission (a Trimatic) absolutely refused to select third gear.

The modulator will cause down-shift too but its not really a replacement for the proper kickdown

Assuming you are running a throttle cable to the EFI throttle body?

So this is what I'm working with. Cable fits under but the kickdown cable will rub on the piping.

And yeah a throttle cable, using a vk bracket bolted to the rocket cover

Is it possible to put the kickdown cable inside another sheath to protect it or perhaps wrap it with some of that heatproof stuff they wrap extractors with?

I don't think heat will matter as I've got a w2a ic. You can't see it in that pic but that's where the pipe is going at the back. Rubbing would be the issue. So maybe some teflon type material.

don't know if it would work but could you use a solenoid to pull the cable ? , something like a old boot release from a commodore

and wire it to a pedal switch

Brilliant Troy. Just brilliant. That is the answer. Micro switch on the throttle body, then a strong solenoid/actuator. I'm very excited.

Is the kickdown lever either on or off or is there stages?

Now how will the vacuum side of the tri attic work with my supercharger. I'm guessing I'll having little to no vacuum so is it redundant?

Some info here about the trimatic cable and electric kick down. http://holdenpaedia....imatic_Kickdown

Why not use the accelerator pedal assy with electric kick down switch from an LJ Torana that was factory auto?

Now you're on to it, kickdown is on/off so that will work, maybe a boot release solenoid will be enough? Pedal switch should be easy enough to find and install too.

Most modulators you can buy these days are adjustable which gives you a bit of wiggle room with the vacuum. You definitely want this working.

So I bought a boot release solenoid, and some mil spec micro switches fell into my pocket, so that was ,lucky. I'm thinking I could add the micro to the throttle body which would give me max adjustment and easy access. Other thoughts?
