Hi All

I have tried to get a standard S Torana 10 gallon tank to replace my rusted out one. All I can get is an GTR one.

That's OK but looking at the Websites the tank appears to sit up high in the boot space.

I don't want to change the look inside the boot area. I don't care if most of the tank is underneath I just would like a flat look in the boot.

Cheers John

Hi John,

The 10 gallon tank is standard in Torana S,SL & GTR. The bigger fuel tank you refer to is the 17 gallon tank fitted as part of Production Option XU-1.

Unfortunately no one has bothered to make a reproduction of the 10 gall tank.

So I need to buy a different type of boot mat. I have already bought a set of standard carpets?

Whilst the tank is out of the car lay your rubber boot mat or carpet in the boot and from underneath the car mark the fuel tank hole in the boot floor onto the back of the mat. Then remove the mat flip it over onto a suitable surface and cut it out with a sharp knife.

Surely it can't be too hard to find someone who has a std fuel tank they'd be willing to sell. With lots of people upgrading to the XU-1 tank there should be some std tanks available second hand.

Be careful when buying standard LC/LJ fuel tanks. The 4-cyl ones looks similar but are only 8 gallons, not 10 gallons.

Easy to spot the difference though.

The HB ,LC & LJ 8 gall tank was used to form the top of the XU1 17 gallon tank and the 10 gall LC,LJ tank was used for the bottom of the XU1 tank.

The LC 1600 and LJ 1600 & 1760 4 cyl engines received the 10 gallon tank as standard.

I believe all TA Torana were fitted with the 10 gallon fuel tank.
