Whats the time frame for HHS to complete a search on vehicles obviously some may be quicker than others but just curious as i have a car I've sold and have been asked if i would provide one for the new owner

I first contacted them one afternoon and was advised that the search had been successful the following morning (you only pay if they can locate your vehicle's records), but you don't get any details until you pay the fee.

I sent the payment the same day and received payment confirmation the next day, and the low_res scan of the report the day after that via email, with the physical copy arriving via snail mail a few days later.

So... 4 days for the emailed results, and allow another few days for the post office to do it's thing.

Although I guess that would depend on their workload at the time?

That’s for the hard copy in the mail. You’ll get the PDF version emailed almost straight up.

Does the report have information as to who the original owner was if it was a government purchase?

I haven't done this myself but I've been told that *IF* the car was sold new in Victoria, one of the big Torana clubs there had dealer sales records and could do a search, but I can't recall the name of the club or any contact details, hopefully someone else knows more?

G'Day Rollo,

If the car was owned in Victoria you can do a search through the AOMC using chassis number and engine number and they might be able to find the car's rego, which may help. Vic Rds do blank out the name of the owner but the papers should show where the first rego was done and that might help as a clue.

Here's the AOMC link http://www.aomc.asn.au

Also, could you ask the ex-racer's family? Some old racers are pretty keen to see their old cars too, assuming he is still with us.

Good Luck.

Cheers,

Liz :)

Have you tried CAMS. If you are real lucky they may be able to conjure up the Log Book application for the car in the name of the person you believe owns it. Quite a lot of records for the Group C period have apparently gone to God due to an enthusiastic spring clean carried out when they moved office from Camberwell, but, you never know, you might be lucky.
