Hi all, it’s come time to choose wheels for my chariot. Looking for something 15” to easily go over a future front hoppers kit and possibly a BW diff with VN-VS disks in the distant future. I’m planning on keeping the Torana stud pattern so that won’t change. Basically the wheels I really like only come in a 15x8 but are available in offsets between 0 & 20. Wondering if anyone else has this size wheel fitted to an LJ/LC without flares. I was hoping to run 225/45r15 tyres with these.

The vs brakes are no where near as good at stopping as vt - vy brakes, they're chalk & cheese. I wouldn't waste the money doing it twice 15" will clear 296 front & 286 back or whatever std ss ect are pretty easy. Gary.

Yeah, the choice of rear was more convenience than anything else. Buy a VN - VS complete diff and use what I had. The question was really about the wheel and tyre choice. Firstly, will a 15x8 with a 225/45r15 fit on the front, and secondly, does anyone have an idea on what offset I should be looking at? I was thinking as much as possible, so a 20 offset would be the go but yeah. Has anyone else done this????

Maybe look at some other wheels i think. You won't get a 15 x 8 on the front and not sure why u would want to? An 8 inch rim is over kill for a 225 tyre too.
Change to HQ/Chev stud, heaps more wheel choices. If your shortening a Borgy anyway get the axles redrilled while their at it.
Do the P76 conversion on the front to run a 15x6" rim. Its a simple conversion, keep the Torana disc stubs, buy blank P76 discs and drill to HQ pattern and buy the adaptor kit from Rodtech to fit.
Square your tubs to the rail at the back and run your 15 x 8's with a 255 series. If doing the tubs isn't an option get 7" rims for the rear and rubber to suit.

Cheers mate, thanks for the different options. The reason I was even looking at the 8” wheels on the front was to put a slightly wider than 205 tyre on, also the wheels I really like only come in a 8”, I can get others that are close design that come in the 7” that I will use if only a 205 can be fitted.

If you actually look, a 225/45r15 goes really nicely on a 15x8. In fact it is the tyre manufacturers recommended rim size for that tyre. Remember a low profile tyre cant ‘balloon’ like a 205/60r13 can on a 13x6 sprintmaster. Also, happy to be wrong, but the lowest profile 255 section width available in a 15” wheel I could find is a 255/60r15, how on earth is this going to fit under the rear of an LJ and look somewhat decent.

This is a gradual upgrade, not an all out build where I don’t get to drive the car for years. This is why I have self imposed constraints on keeping the torana stud pattern and close to same offset.

You will struggle to get it to fit unless it’s a flat face rim with heaps of backspace. Those sizes you mention would likely require 4wd ride height.
What are the wheels you are considering? Can you post a picture?

Even with the P76 brake disc it’s close with a 195 on a 6 inch rim like a convo pro.

255/60/15 fits easy under the rear once you have minitubbed it.

As Rexy has also said above, a 195 x 15 is the max on the front of an LC/LJ. Could be time for a rethink?
Your only option really if your set on 15's with minimal fuss are 6 inch fronts (P76 upgrade drilled to Torana pattern) and 7 inch rears without mini tubbing.
Have a search as well, there are heaps of threads on this.

Thanks guys, I have had a search, and couldn’t find anything on 15x8’s which explains a lot. I was looking at the Simmons V51, which is only available in either a 15x8 or 15x10 with offsets between 0 & p20. I’m currently running a 205/60r13 on a csa sprintmaster which has an offset of p18.
The thinking behind it maybe fitting is I’m bringing the rim 23mm further out towards the guard, which should be ok as the bare sprintmaster is tiny under there, and the tyre should only come towards the guard 8mm +/- 5mm which looks like it may just sneak in. The rolling diameter is 7mm bigger, which puts the tyre 3.5mm closer up into the guard on compression.
While I do like the look of convos with big tyres and the like on Toranas, it’s not the look I’m going for with my car. I’m hoping to build something in the ‘pro touring’ style that is coming from the states at the moment. A modern take on a classic car.
Back to the drawing board I guess, the other wheels I was thinking are performance wheels formula which comes in a 15x7 which they claim fits with a p20 offset with a 195/50r15 which is exactly the same rolling diameter as the 205/60r13 and the tread shoulder should sit in roughly the same place taking into account ‘tyre growth’ when fitted to the wider rim. Problem with these wheels is the 15x8 max offset is p12, which isn’t the best but easily doable with a diff width change......
