Can anyone tell me how to remove bonnet spring and lever so I can get chromed and strip paint from bonnet? I think the spring unscrews but lever appears to be spotwelded in and I don't want to start drilling holes in the bonnet. I looked in service manuals I have but they didn't cover it, thanks paul

Hi Paul,  Pretty sure you just unscrew the spring (flat head into the end of the assembly) from the captive nut on the bonnet.  Can't remember how I got the lever off, sorry.  Cheers Ron

^^^ As above but loosen the locknut first then unscrew with a flat blade driver. Record the measurement from the bonnet frame to the flange for re-assembly.

To remove the lever you need to remove the pin upon which it pivots. You will see one end has a mushroom head and the other end is hollowed and peened over. This is the end you have to cut or grind away.

Thanks guys, really appreciate your help, worked a treat and I even managed to salvage the lever pivot pin!  This topic might come in handy to other forum members in the future, paul

Can you buy new pivot pins when it comes time for reassembly?

Cheers Graham

Hi Brian, I didn't think replacement pins would be available.
