Once upon a time, well five years ago, I came up with an idea to go drag racing utilising a 202 and Traumatic I have had for years.
Not having the money to find a Torana to use, I came across the XT130 Corona Wagon, now at first glance it is probably not the normal choice for drag racing, but it was rwd and had a Borg Warner diff, it is also very similar in wheelbase and weight.
The first thing that needed removing was the factory steering box and crossmember. We fabricated a crossmember and adapted a steering rack out of a Corolla, married that back to the steering column with a PTO part from a tractor!
Apart from having to drop the crossmember everytime you pulled the motor out, this was quite effective, so had a strong tailshaft made, installed a V8 radiator, rummaged in the shed and found an X2 set of inlet and exhaust manifolds.
The intake I adapted with a pair of HQ strombergs turned sideways and the exhaust copped long 2.25" primaries merging to a 3 inch dump pipe.
We took it racing and came home with a best of 16.50 from that weekend, over the coming months we stripped the interior, removed all side windows and replaced with sheet metal, then welded the doors up, making it resemble a panelvan.
Over the coming months by playing with tyres, jetting and tuning we knocked out a best of 14.55. By this stage I was sick of the twins and bought a 465 on a Cain manifold and decided to put it on the Dump, it pulled 161hp, considering it was a fairly basic set up, I was pretty happy with this.
We raced this set up for a couple of years, running a best of 14.21 @ 97 but regularly knocking out 14.25-14.35 every run, an ideal bracket racer!
But as you do, you want to go that little faster, I want a 13 (well 12, but let's try for 13 first lol), so enter a set of triples 45s. Have only had a few test meets with them so far, but during some maintenance on the motor we found a few issues, so it is currently in the machine shop for a freshen and open up the head a little.
Hopefully will have it all back together for November and get those numbers.

One of two ways:

There are size restrictions on the second option so you may need to resize larger images before you can attach them?

And I'm guessing "Hemorrhoid" because it's a constant pain in the arse? ;)

 

Geez I haven't seen one of those pressure regulators for about 30 years! I used to have one on a speedway car (it's probably still in a box around here somewhere).

Yeah it is a pain in the are lol, plus being a 202, it had the tendency to weep a little fluid here and there

Just thought to throw up some specs of the engine-
202 +.060
Red crank, blue rods
Custom sump, baffles/scraper etc
Powerbond balancer
Electric water pump
Dual grind cam [email protected] .400 lift at valve 108 lobe centres.
The head is a 149 with blue valves, 43.6 cc chambers, inlet divider removed and pipe inserted. Fairly mild porting on it. This is currently in the shop and hoping to achieve 175cfm of flow once back.
The 45s have 36 chokes, 40 pump, blank bleed back, 55f9 idles, 165 main, 215 bleeds. This is what achieved us the quickest times in the 30 test runs. However it appears I may have been tuning around two vacuum leaks. I expect jets sizes will go down.
Hoping with the current mods I can run mid to low 13s.

I like it mate. 175cfm will not be a problem if your guy is any good. Is the block zero decked or close? With that induction and soon to be a decent head with a chamber size to make good compression with flat tops and a zero deck you need more cam! Im not sure your going to find much more with the current modest cam.

Yeah a new cam is on the agenda, as well as a higher stall converter, but they can wait for the Summer break.
I prefer to only to one mod at a time, which is why the Webers had thirty test runs. Make one change, take a run and repeat ad nauseum.
I was interested to know what difference just adding Webers to an already sorted motor would make, the answer is not much. Having said that, the induction noise and engine bay porn alone has to be worth using them.

Yeah I get asked often if it is a Gemini, but it is closer to a Torana in size, little wider in wheelbase and falls inbetween the two door and four door on length.

Photo was before final finish, we started with a maximum of 234hp @ 450 thou at the flywheel, with abysmal low lift flow. Now flows enough to make 305hp and a massive increase in low lift flow.
