Hey Dave, looks great. I did mine about 8 months ago . Were you having trouble seeing the gauges like me lol. I wasn't sure if it was the old globes or the old eye . I remember it took me a while and I had the wires in the clock around the wrong way. I purchased my First multi metre as it was around the same time I had the seized screen wipers. The multi metre was faulty, yeah they were the good old days. I needed a multi metre to check the multi metre. Did you want me to take a pic ?. I also purchased a skulls head with blue flashing eyes for the gearstick and some cheap speakers with blue flashers in them to fill the holes in the door.

Hey fellas, yeah I think it's a big improvement.
Ray, yes I'm finding it harder to see stuff these days if the light isn't good. Must admit having a blown bulb on the right side of the speedo doesn't help the situation much either.
Full on is a little bit too bright really. Probably the 4 SMD LED T10 wedge for $3.50 would be a better choice but Jaycar don't have any alternative BA9S LEDs to the 120 Lumen items so I thought it best to match the lighting of the main instruments with the four 2" gauges.

Hey Dave,
I forgot to mention. When I did mine it was on the WB. The handbrake light doesn't look that affective. Having the blue light behind the red cover didn't do it for me. There is a small gap that runs along the bottom of the red facia part. So I can see the blue through this gap but didn't think it was affective anyway(each to there own). Would have installed a red, in that one given a second chance. Being a brighter light I think it would look better.

The LED globes are much better in the rest of the dash though.

Old thread, I know, but I have a question re converting to LED globes in the LC LJ dash. Like Dave said, the 120 Lumen T10 wedge LED's for the main gauges, they are not much better than standard. Has anyone removed the blue diffusers (refer to Dave's pic) inside the dash? If so, what was that like?

I know where I went wrong. I accidentally did not use the correct lamps.

It’s great to see an old dash light up.
I don’t suppose anyone knows which globes I should be getting?

Went with the 4000K colour temperature to counter the blue filters built into the dash a bit.

I bought some LED’s for my LH dash but half don’t work and the others that do aren’t very bright at all. Certainly not like yours that’s for sure.

You may have bought globes that are polarity specific. Try flipping them around 180deg in their holder.
Can you put up a pic or the specs for the globes you bought?

They look bright as hell. Are they dimmable?
Look well too bright for highway driving but fine for around town.

Mine are not at the moment due to faulty dimmer.
I don't think they to bright i'm happy with them.

I think a lof of the modern LED's are properly dimmable.
When I did my Datsun dash, I used ones that really don't dim well, and they're single-polarity or whatever you want to call them so I spent a fair while getting them in the right way!

But they are about perfect brightness for all conditions fortunately. I retained the factory green/aqua tinted condoms that the globes sit into, and I'm happy I did.

Great string, I had to take a dash out to swap a gauge and never been happy with the inconsistent/dim lighting of the dash so followed Dave’s framework with the LEDs while I was there. Great result! It’s what I’d expect the dash lighting should look like if I didn’t know better. Thanks heaps!
Will probably do the dome light too as I find standard globes change the colour of the lense over time, probably due to heat generation of door is left open etc. although I did sort a good method of bleaching them back with hydrogen peroxide, come up like new...

You could spray a little blue lens dye on the outer globes & make them all illuminate the same colour. That's probably what i would do.

Damn, I think you are right. Such a rookie mistake. Cheers
