Slightly off Original topic

Anyone ever straightened a sump?
Just bough an Aeroflow 308 sump and it’s rocks around on the block quite a bit

Torque it down without a gasket and you will find it will probably pull down flush.

Just make sure its not rocking around on the crank/rods first! Some of the internal windage trays are poorly fitted and bow up toward the crank, they need to be persuaded back the other way.

Thanks guys.

Didn’t think about the windage tray but it’s definately rocking as if twisted.
I will double check nothing is touching.

Was up the shed bolting it down without a gasket.
I’ll undo em later and see if it has straightened out.
Thought about torquing em down with a wedge or block under opposing sides and twisting is back the correct way.

Have ordered one of those one piece rubber gaskets with the steel insert.
Believe it helps from overtightening so likely better on twisted sumps so doesn’t overtighten and squish the gasket out.

You could use internal shake proof washers, so you don't have to really tighten it so much. Much better idea.

I doubt it will have straightened out when you undo it. But given it will pull in as you have tested, when you put a gasket in and fasten it back down I would say it will be OK. I had one that rocked too but never leaked when in service.

Should b plenty of good fabricators that could knock one up to suit your needs modifying your original sump.bigger capacity .baffled with more gates.
