Hi everyone

I have a lj thats been engineered for a 308,t350 and 9in. The engine needs a rebuild i want to go efi and i would like 400 to 500hp i will be staying auto.

So my question is do i rebuild a injected 5l and stroke it or put a 1jz turbo 6 in it. I dont want to do a rb. The car is only a weekend cruiser

The torana will need a new exhuast, tailshaft, wirning and fuel mods for either engines.

I can get a 1jz for about 3k and can get a vs 304 box for about a 1k

Probably the 308 or 304, but I'd like to do an ls conversion in a lc or lj. Even a little 4.8 litre, i just don't like the cast block as much as the aluminum, weight wise.

Cheapest option would be LS1 those other combos are going to cost way more to get 500 hp thats the truth

I cant get ls1 engineered thats why i went 308 .

Engine must be under 3L to be able to add a supercharger or turbo

Find a different engineer.

Seems like the guy you are using is going by the guidelines.

You should be able to find someone that will allow as LS1, but there will be a heap of upgrades in other areas required for it to pass.

Thats what the engineers job is. Tell you what needs to be done.

Need to be prepared to spend a heap of money though.

On the engineers inspections, and the required mods.

Ls will make that power easier yet remain drivable.

lsironblocks sell ls 4.8/5.3 long engings $1350

Can be bored out to 5.7 or splurge on 383 stroker kit...comes down to budget.

355 stroker get into bushpig territory over 500+hp & cost a bomb to be reliable.

Mild efi 5 litre, good sized stally & short gears are heaps of fun in lightweight lc/j & can be driven anywhere....more fun than bushpig motor long term.

F280 355 vn heads, harrop single etc would be as wild as you'd want for a weekend cruiser & with right driveline/suspension. creep into 10's if it ever hooked up....

Don't disgard the little 4.8 litre ls engine. Smallish cam, slightly ported 241 heads, ls6 intake manifold, ported throttle body, good tolerances & you'll have 400 hp at the treads super easy, add a Cadillac blower (lsa style) easy 500 hp + at the tyres, on a conservative tune. Back it with a 4l80e, lock up converter & a 9". Streetable 10 second daily. They're running low 8's with them in the USA now, so no slouch & approvable.

1JZ will make a conservative 500fwhp on steel wheel stock turbo's with plenty to spare, and be a piece of cake to engineer as it's under the limit.

They are all Great engines tho, So it will have to be up to personal choice i guess.

If you have lots of cash and want to blow just about every thing off and have perfect street manners, unbelievable fuel economy, cops wouldn't even look at you, have the greenies lick your arse, be the first to stick in the engine and g/box of a Tesla in that ever so light LJ Torana.

regards

To fit a LS nicely you need to drop the engine down and shift the starter to left hand side.

I've wondered previously if this sort of thing will be the future of driveline conversions. I don't know where all the batteries would go. Maybe you'd need a stereo playing the sound of a lumpy cammed engine to give it some character.

I would think a Tesla would be very heavy with all of the crap they have in them. I've never seen one, but I guess they would be a big car. They have made the electric motor work extremely well. in a Street Machine magazine a couple of issues ago, there was a small pic of a stock Tesla and a full on blown race Capri in a drag race, the Capri only won by a couple of tenths. put that Tesla driveline in something light, LJ Torana, and look out.

Tesla wouldn't come without issue imo, if something shit itself it would cost you motsa.

Think the fastest elec car 1/4 mile is only like 10.1 but at a low 120mph range, which means it leaves like a rocket but by 200mtrs she's dropping off.

By the time you buy a good top end and 3 carburettors it’s just as cheap to bolt two more cylinders in.
