To place your car on car stands for long term storage and to stop flat spotting the tyres can the stands be placed directly underneath each front lower suspension arm directly below the coil spring (LJ Torana) naturally with a piece of soft timber between the bottom suspension arm and stand so the suspensions sits under its natural weight. Rear stands would be on the outer ends of the diff housing. Just don't like the idea of jacking up the front and letting the front suspension and just letting it hang down.

Reckon you are onto it mate.
Like you say, better to let it sit under its own weight.
As an aside, I have always found with at least the LC/LJ cars, if you support them on a hoist (i.e. lift via chassis rails) after a while they ""droop"" a bit and the doors no longer open or close properly. Of course, it goes back to normal once the weight gets put back on the wheels.
Moral of the story - place the stands as close as you can to the wheels.
