I'm interested in which cross member is a better choice when fitting a celica box in a LJ Torana.

It looks like the dellow item is more of an universal item due to not having any mounting holes drilled for the gearbox mount compared to the CRS one that appears to be ready to bolt in and go.

Are there any exhaust clearance issues with either of these or anything else that needs to be taken into consideration?

Thanks

Make your own ....simple to do and you can set the box at the height you want

CRS used to be able to supply it unassembled. I used one years ago. Got everything just where I wanted it and welded it all up.

I made my own for LJ but have seen better one since that is a piece welded to front of standard cross member

did this for my Bedford Truck

That's not a bad idea, but an original cross member is probably going to sell for quite a high price these days and then still need to be modified. It could actually be more expensive that way???

I'm keeping my original parts unmodified tucked away in the shed so I wouldn't use my existing cross member for doing the above modifications.

Make your own.
Just about guarantee you will have to alter the crs one! (Multiple personal experience ๐Ÿ˜ž)
So you will need an angle grinder, welder & drill to alter it which as it happens is whatโ€™s needed to make your own ๐Ÿ˜ & you will know it will fit๐Ÿ‘

Used dellows universal item when fitting 304/getrag...mofo was thick & heavy yet still needed some modifying too.

If in a hurry I'd try lighter aluminium(?) version they have now or try crs just to be different.

Would prefer a custom one if Sydney fab shops weren't a PITA but Dellows is a short drive away lol

I have spares and spare spares so doesn't worry me,

started selling stuff to get some space back

So has anyone got a LJ cross member that they'd be willing to part with (preferably a 73 model one but doesn't have to be) and I'll modify it to suit.

Whilst I'm at it, does anyone have a tailshaft to suit a LJ with the celica box that they don't need?
