Hey has anyone seen the ‘new’ V5 Simmons Tempe is selling on EBay? They look the goods.
My biggest worry about going a different rim is will the fill out the guards (flares) like my current Hotwires do. I guess I could just measure the backspace and dish of the Hotwires and see if he has something close.
When measuring backspace is it taken from the knave to the back lip?
Anyone else purchased these?

The new 1 piece simmons & tyres are roughly 3 times cheaper than the 3 piece. I saw a knock off copy of the 1 piece fr's yesterday & the 1 piece simmons fr today. At $400 dearer or $100 per rim, they are a much nicer looking wheel. They probably don't do a huge offset in the 1 piece, but they still are a pretty nice looking rim up close. I would definitely like a set. Gary.

Haha yeah I love the Hotwires but the gold V5 would be a step up I think, especially if I can get a larger rim.

What Tyres are available for 8 & 10 x 15". Tempe tyres have listed rim & tyre packages. I have never heard of the tyres listed, so I am thinking Chinese crap that are probably deadly in the wet and dry.

It's not that much more to buy a good tyre, that you like, i think. Tempe does do rims only aswell. I use a particular tyre on my clubsport for that exact same reason, I'm going to run them on the ss next, i find even the same brand & size tyre, with a different tread pattern makes a big difference in traction. The series 1 achillies is not as good as the series 2. Tread bar shape is the only difference. Hopefully another lx owner can steer you to a really good tyre, Gary.

I was hoping to get some rear tyres around 265x15 & 245x15 for the front. Not sure what decent tyres are available for 15" these days. Good sizes in 14" are getting hard to get these days. I was hoping to get some new 10"& 8" V5 for the hatch, but no sense buying 15" if I cant get good new tyres. Tempe list a wheel tyre package for V5s but doesn't list the width or section and the brand is lists as Winrun and that bothers me. They also list different offsets but doesn't indicate if its positive or negative.

I think those offsets are positive.

That picture of the blue Torana is probably running a 0 offset and just using really large tyres to puff out and fill the guard that way.

I'm interested in a set of these rims in 15x10 and 15x8.

Looking at Ebay it appears they do these simmons in P0, P10, P15 and P20.

I have older hotwires in 14x10 and 14x8 but they have no offset markings.

Were the majority of the older hotwire a 0 offset ??  How do I measure to find out.

I'd think you'd want negative offset to fill the flares on a Torana?

P0 is zero offset, that means the mounting flange (the face where the rim contacts the hub) is in the centre of the rim.

P10 would be +10mm offset, P15 is +15mm and so on, positive offset means less dish in the outer rim...

I suppose their main market these days would be VE / VF Commodores and whatever ford are selling these days, and all that new stuff usually runs positive offset rims.

Having said that, I'm sure they'd be happy to take your money and make a set for you. ^_^

Thanks for that Bigfella. I knew positive size (10, 15 and 20) offset was no good but hoping P0 was OK.

Just went for a dig through some of my wheel information and found some details from when I visited the Performance wheels factory about 10 years ago.

The challanger rims made in 15x10 were -19 and the 15x8 was -9.

Looks like I will dream for a bit longer about having simmons rims.

0 offset's certainly no good if you're gunna run the max legal 255s. For them you'll need about neg 20 offset with L34 flares. God knows what offset they'd need with A9X flares. If you're chucking more rubber on then I guess you can get away with less negative offset.

They'd fill em out pretty well.

The price Jax gave me on the 3 piece Simmons was $1200 per corner for the three piece so I'm gunna be saving for a while I think.

When I built the SLR I purchased a set of FR17 8"&10" 3 piece rims from Tempe Tyres. With 275 rear and 235 front tyres Hankook front and rear. This was approximatly six years ago $3,200 I enquired six months ago for an identical set for the hatch and was told it would be a six month wait and $5,850

I guess their wheels must still be in high demand if they're able to charge these prices

15” tyres are harder than 14’s to get these days. The 285/40R15 would be but impossible to get although they are less rolling diameter than the 265/50R14 we all love. The 295/50R15 is available in a couple of tyres but they CAN be tricky due to their height, not ideal imo.

The front is easy, the 225/50R15 is available in a few patterns and is equivalent to the 245/50R14 run on many Toranas including mine. So all in all it’s the rear tyre that’s hard to get. Currently we can easily get 2 patterns in the 265/50R14.

The 15’s V5’s from Tempe are out for me I think due to rear tyre availability. 16’s aren’t much better. If they made them in a 17 I think they would sell like hot cakes.
