I am possibly crossing a line with no return here but am thinking of detailing/painting some of the components under the car such as trailing arms, chassis, springs, sway bars etc etc. Not to be a show car but just to tidy things up.
just trying to get an idea of what others have done so i can decide what to paint black and what to paint the body colour.
I would be interested to see any photos of what you guys/gals have done.

I've used powder coating, Astech silver and painted trailing arms etc in a stainless steel pressure pak, looking nice and neat and not the same old black you often see.

Regards

I just painted mine black but where new springs/shocks I've left them red.  I did get the K frame powder coated, but again in black. If you are looking at getting new bushes in arms etc be prepared to have to do some minor touch ups. Cheers Ron

I'd use a combination of red and black probably such as red springs, red sway bars etc just to break it up a little, then maybe a polished aluminium drop tank

Yeah that is pretty much what i was thinking, as you say to break it up. Have the drop tank already with the twin polished pea shooters.
Problem is ill start to pull a couple of bits off and get carried away.😬

Just done mine and thought long and hard about it. I ended up painting all brackets and chassis rails in KBS black satin and the floor pan sheet metal in Upol Raptor , its a ute bed liner. I used their adjustable shutz gun and sprayed a fine pattern. Was happy with the look and result

That looks awesome, is the Upol Raptor paint expensive?

It’s about $90 for a litre kit , it’s a 2 pack so comes with hardener . I got a 4 litre kit for about $250, I used exactly 2 litres to do 2 coats

Yeah, like that finish. I was gonna use the Raptor, but I don't have a suitable place to spray it. I used the old stoneguard, but with a sprinkle of a dark metalic gun metal grey and cleared. Sort of looks like wet 240 wet and dry, a little different.

Regards

Im using my driveway to spray my latest project. In 2 pack.

Neighbours arent very nosey.

Probably doing the wrong thing. But keep volumes of spraying down, and dont do it very often.

Havent been able to find anyone who will hire out their booth after hours.

Can access one but its 2 hours away.

Hope I dont get into any trouble. LOL

There is a thread around here somewhere about making your own booth in an ordinary shed with plastic sheeting and fan ducting. And have a search around youtube as well, some of the setups look darned impressive, even if they are only temporary.

There are portable inflatable spray booths for sale on ebay for less than 2k and you can hire them too, but I don't know if anyone in Oz has them for hire yet.

I just lined half the garage with plastic sheeting, I sprayed epotec epoxy which doesn’t have the nasty stuff in the hardener like 2 pac paint . The raptor does have the cyanate stuff in it so need a good carbon gas filter and cover up . But when spraying it it doesn’t give off a mist like paint does so doesn’t seem to blow anywhere .

Fantastic finish.

Brett, any reason why you didn't use the Upol Raptor finish for the whole underbody?

Is it normal for the wheel wells to be the same colour as the car?

Regards Mando.

Only reason was for looks , I wanted the chassis and suspension brackets to stand out. Didn’t like the look of the whole underbody in the textured finish . Wheel wells were painted with a stone guard originally . So no colour just the black stone guard . I’ll use the raptor in the wheel wells as well but with a courser finish .

Thanks for that, it all makes sense now.

Regards Mando.
