Thursday arvo is now a well established fun time. Burnout masters wildcard shootout was the highlight. There were many stout efforts but I did enjoy Warbird in particular. If you have never heard a blown big block pinned at WOT until it’s tyres are destroyed then you really should get out and have a look.
It’s truly one of the auto worlds great sounds.
Friday brought out the big crowd. The heavy hitters often sneak into the dyno zone early to take advantage of the cooler air.

An early suprise. Very low key looking commodore. This photo is of his “dud” run. Made over 1200 on his first run....
Big suprises were promised for later in the day.
But before that there was the magnificent retaking of the world burnout record.

There is a nice mix of regulars and new cars. Might be my bias showing, but I reckon there is more Holden/ GM stuff here than anything else.
So returned to the dyno shed after the burnout record. And it is a shed. A giant tin shed.
They ran a couple of things and then this.

They have allowed a competition car to do a demo run. Standard tube chassis twin turbo race monster. Made a mind melting 2605 horses and sounded freaking awesome in the process.
But this was only the entree...
The AC Delco team was going to run their doorslammer.
BAE billet block, methanol and 50 pounds of boost from the PSI screw supercharger. Now I’m going to assume that a few of you have been to the drags and know how loud these are.
So there are many warnings about noise. Then they do the initial start up... In the tin shed it is loud. Very loud. Idles for a bit then shut down. Lots of fiddling around getting it onto the dyno.
They run a couple of cars on the other dyno in the meantime including a beautiful red HJ? Ute with a stock 200,000 km old LS1 in it. Purred like a kitten and made the original factory advertised power with ease.
Fun time!
They finally have the doorslammer ready to go. It fires up, loud as hell.
There has been much smack talk about how it will smash what the turbo job had done.
As usual, when one of the big number cars is running all sorts of media and other hanger ons stand blocking Joe public’s view. No exception this time. Then the slammer let’s rip on it’s first full noise run. The view blockers scatter like leaves in the wind!
The building shakes so much stuff fall off the walls and ceiling. I can feel the sound rattling my chest. No more blocked view for the second run... it’s the closest physical sensation I have had to being down at the edge of the track at Calder Park in the old days when the top fuel cars ran. You could get real close before the safety police killed the fun.
So how did it go?

A mere 2526 horses.
Victory for the turbos! Well until tomorrow when they will try again.
Wildest time on the dyno since they ran the burnout Ute last year and the time Jakes yellow turbo Torana blew the turbo up after making 2000 plus at the tyres.

This guy is an optimist. I have always found the back of the Ute an ideal place to lay out bits during disassembly and reassembly.
