Got the new shifter on the fresh box, took a bit of fiddling, a mixture of new and old bits Attached File  IMG_0088.JPG   88.55K   24 downloadsAttached File  IMG_0086.JPG   86.46K   22 downloads

HK standard rims are 5”, V8 and later GTS 6”
There were slotted HT/HG rims, fitted only on manual 350 Monaro’s

Only HK V8 GTS after about August 1968 got Rally (6”) rims and then not always. They were still optional but as most cars were stock order it appears that they became essentially standard with V8 GTS. Very much like V8 banjo, you could still order it after 3.36 Salisbury became standard on V8 GTS, but very rare simply as most cars were stock order. Rally rims also came with the D70 tyre option on other HK models except Brougham which were only ever 5”.

The slotted and lightweight HT Rally rim was part of the HDT updates after the HDT GTS350 failure at Sandown, so only cars built after that time got them. All early production had the same Rally rims as V8 HT GTS.

Nice work on the 4spd Dave. Gpack looking good

It is nice to see a standard length shifter too. Most have been cut short at some time or another.

The repo one was too long and without the dampner. I cut it off and put the original end on

Loving to see the G pack restored. Brings back memories of a conversation a couple of us had in the early nineties...

A friend was about to paint his G pack (identical to yours) and put flares, v8 etc. he was concerned however of reducing the Value of an original G pack. I and others argued that it would always be worth more as a L34/A9x clone.

He painted that car black n white with the flares etc. Seems a shame now that I see how great your car looks!

You probably would be mad to do that to it today. Sure ditch the 6cyl driveline and fit bigger but leave it looking stock externally and interior except bigger wheels. Perfect candidate for an injected Holden V8 and whatever box fits without wrecking the tunnel, but leave it looking like a Gpack outside. Maybe with 15” Pontiac RallyII rims.

That would be nice but the minister for finance is a real stickler for everything being original. Hopefully it goes OK with the 202

Passenger side ID plate should have been fitted for painting.

Yep. Left hand rivet in place and the right side of the plate pulled up slightly. That was how the GMP&A bodies were done. I don't know if Dave is going for a concourse finish or not, but it should be black as well.

Not GMP&A. It was a Dandenong BAP thing. Pagewood or Elizabeth GMP&A bodies aren’t done like that either.

BAP?

The LX race shells were done the way I described.

Body Assembly Plant. Most Dandenong bodied vehicles in that era should be like it. Even HQ, when you look close enough you’ll spot it.

I might be wrong but here's my thoughts.

I thing if he was doing a concorse resto and making it 100% factory he would have done reseach and painted it as so. Eveyone has differnt preferances as to what they want and like.

If he is happy with what he has done it's not up to eveyone else to pick on the style he has painted it.

I might be wrong and he is going about it the backwards way and asking after he has painted it.

But i think he wanted color in the engine bay otherwise he would have painted it black. also as for how the body tags are done I think it is up to the owner as to how they paint them or not.

There is so many cars out there with tags un painted and painted all 3 it comes down to the owners choice I think.

It's easy enough to paint it black if you want to.
Just seemed like everyone say it has to be this or that. Can be annoying at times.

I am not saying that it has to be anything. I love this car, and I love everything about the build so far. Keep up the posts Dave. :spoton:

That sheen level looks the goods mate, very nice, what's the paint brand ? If your mate, uses the solid colour for the stripes and doesn't flow coat it, I'm going to be super impressed. I farking hate the look of a flow coat, sorry, but if it was painted new with an edge, just like anything 60's & 70's it should be re painted with the edge. Personally i just think it looks right.
