MC6 Torque Master 4spd was also used behind the Opel 1900 in the LH & LX Torana as well as the XW1 Philippines LJ Torana with 1900 Opel engine and the XV9 Korean LJ Chevrolet 1700 (Torana) with the 1700 Opel engine.
My brother was told by a transmission repairer many many years ago the Opel 4spd used in the LC Torana was made in Brazil, however that appears to be BS.

I don't think so as far as Phillipino? Never heard them called that.

Agree Rob, the MC6 is a GM box manufactured in the Philippines, the M76 is a Borg Warner box manufactured wherever, but not the Philippines.
I guess some people nicknamed them a Philipino gearbox based on the M76 being no stronger than the MC6.

The mechanical engineer at work, in charge of the light vehicle fleet, mainly consisting of 173 VH manual wagons at that time referred to the transmission as the Phillipino five speed. He had a low opinion of the torque capabilities of the box, which soon proved to be correct as I had nothing but trouble with the thing. Hence GMH not using these behind the 202 blue in the VH, although Fxxd did use them behind their 3.3 litre in the XE, as well as Bitsushiti in the 2.6 Smegma.
At the time it seemed like a good way to go, being a virtual bolt up, apart from the clutch cable. Think I paid $1300 for the box which was a lot at the time.
Sorry for the hijack but I’m pretty sure that Phillipino 5 speed was the name generally given to these in the days when they were first hitting the roads of Australia.
