Agree probably 10F2 but it's absolutely a 1982 date code. ZF coded M20 did not exist in 1972.

Is there a list of these stenciled codes somewhere? I had a look on the Torana RPA website and he has engine (rocker cover) stencils and diff code stencils but I couldn't find the ones for gearboxes.

Mark the gearbox you're looking at is from HZ to VK the codes are ZD M20 ZE ZF not sure which one is M21 and M22.... the broadcast sheet is from a 1980 commodore cheers

ZD is 8cyl M20.
ZF IS 6cyl M20
ZE must be 8cyl M21
ZB is M22

According to the early Commodore parts manual there were three different part numbers for a 6 cylinder M20 (3.05 Low Gear)...
92005678 for some VB 6 cyl (guessing for red motors?)
92004555 for other VB 6 cyl, all VC 6 cyl and VH with 3.3L eng only (guessing for blue motors?)
92004560 for VH with 2.85L eng
then for the V8's
92004558 (3.05 Low Gear) for all 4.2L
92004559 (2.54 Low Gear) for all 5.0L
Apparently all Starfire and some 2.85L engines got a 5 speed transmission in the Commodores, although the Starfire in the UC Torana got the same M20 as the 6 cylinder (92004555).
So I would guess that either "ZA" or "ZF" is for the 2850 engine, and the other for the 3300?
No idea what the difference between the two would be?

Only thing I can think of is the speedo drive gear on the mainshaft.
