Hi all.  Did all LX's come with the front arm rest with integrated door handle or was there a "no arm rest" option.  Reason I ask was just going through some parts and found 2 front (I think) arm rests that don't seem to line up with anything, and not with the door handle cut-out, and two stand alone inner handles (straight type). Cheers Ron

Got any pictures, Ron?

I *think* it was possible to delete armrests for use as a Taxi, Cop car, etc.? There was also a "Door pull-to" handle available which was a solid plastic (non-padded) handle that screwed to the top part of the door above the trim (one single common part number (2808258) across all LH, LX & UC models).

I think the base model Torana S 4cyl didn't have armrests, however the only LX rear armrests that would not have had the cutout for the door opener would have been the hatchback?

Sorry guys I should have got a pic.  I am working today with my son (helping doing some stump grinding) but will put something up later.  Dave, I should have mentioned i presume it was parts for the hatch (in one of the many boxes) when I bought it, and I do have the smaller rear arm rests as well.  Cheers Ron

Here's some pics of the suspects in question.  I'm just a bit surprised that these would be in the parts provided when I got the car if they didn't belong to it. Colour (chamois) is the same as my car. BTW, as a side issue, do people get/do restorations on the arm rests or just buy new repros?

Those should be from a later hatch then, not having ashtrays (there should be an ashtray in the rear of the console if they're not in the armrests).

There was a thread around here somewhere on hatchback rear armrests asking the same question about restoring them, I'll see if I can find it again...

They were redonkulously expensive to buy as I recall.

They aren't the rear arm rests.  Pic may be a bit distorting but these are about the same length as front arm rests.  I have original rear hatch arm rests which are about 2/3 the length. Cheers Ron

Looking further at the parts catalog (it's the same for LH and LX), it seems ALL front doors had armrests as there is only one inside door handle listed...

Front-Door-Hardware.jpg

But rear armrests could be deleted on 8UG69 & 8VB69 Sedans only...

Rear-Door-Hardware.jpg

Handle-door-remote.jpg

Note that the part number (7435242) matches Ron's picture above.

So it appears ALL Hatchbacks had rear armrests, early ones with ashtrays, later ones without. (Sedans had standalone ashtrays in a pocket in the door trim.)

But obviously hatches didn't have rear door handles, so at least that proves that you have a few parts from different models mixed in there Ron.

I can't tell from the photo but is there a part number molded into the inside of those armrests? I'm wondering if they may be from a Monaro?

The part numbers for "77" body styles (hatchback) rear armrests are 9938663xx for LH and 9938664xx for RH ("xx" = the colour code)

I don't have a HQ parts catalog but the HX catalog says the "37" body style (coupe) had the same rear armrests either side (IE Qty 2) 9943864xx

The armrest in the photo above is not symmetrical so it couldn't be universal fit, so it shouldn't be from a Monaro?

I was thinking the same thing however these are the rear arm rests to suit HQ - HJ coupe. HX only came in Cinnabar.

One last thought, Ron, maybe the smaller armrests you thought were Torana Hatch are actually something different?

Can you snap a picture of the two different sized armrests side-by-side?

Whatever these came from they have to be from the rear. The angle on the end is to match in with the rear seat.

Looking at pics of hatchback rear armrests they appear to be about the same length as the front door armrests.

edit: good onya Rob, a pic is worth a thousand words. :spoton:

They actually look longer than the front armrests. That's why I'm thinking maybe the ones Ron provided the picture of are the Torana Hatch armrests and the smaller ones he describes may be from something else?

Well gents thanks for your comments/advise.  I wasn't focusing on these being rear arm rests but I have just put them up against the screw holes in the body and they match, and the angle on them does run with the rear wheel well and where the seat would run. Also look like the ones in the other thread only not as good condition. And I had them just lying around thinking they were odd to the car. But, that poses another question.  I am positive I have a set of smaller arm rests which I saw recently and, thinking they were the rears thought I should put them somewhere special where they won't get lost.  Well guess what, I can't remember where that special spot is.  LOL.  As soon as I find them I will post them up. BTW I can't see any part numbers on them but there is a number on the vinyl, but only on one arm rest. Cheers Ron

Just did some more looking and peeled back a bit of padding to find this part # on the vinyl.  Confirms your due diligence Andrew.  Also found the front arm rests but not the smaller ones I have hidden somewhere.  Thanks all again you have solved another query of mine.  FWIW my console does have the cutout at rear for the ashtray, so I assume my car would be classed as a later model (11/76). Cheers Ron

Opening lever is from 'poverty pack' Torana or Belmont.

Those smaller rears will have the  door opener cut out be for 8V#69 rear doors.
