Finally got the air con unit mounted.

The guy who supplied the unit, and who is going to do all the plumbing and wiring,

made this plenum chamber that takes the air from the front around to the right hand side with four ports to connect hoses to.

Two at the top, one at the back and one at the bottom.

Will it be plumbed into the defrost vents as well? Probably get away without the legalities of needing a heater that way.

Not sure at the moment.

I'm at the stage where the quickest and easiest is the best.

I didn't rebuild the heater motor, and I didn't install the small radiator into the heater box.

The heater box flaps all work from the original slide controls, so it could be used to distribute the air to all the ducts.

I'll leave it up to the air con guy, as long as every thing works.

Is this being installed as a totally additional unit?

It's the same unit as mine, but the installation has nothing in common at all, haha.

Heath,

nothing and no-one could be compared to any of your installations.

The fitting you've got the hose connected to (not "TANK", the other one) just goes to a vacuum supply. It's supposed to draw any fumes out of the canister and burn them in the engine.

The other one ("CARB") is connected to the fuel bowl vent on anything except 5 litre cars, on Quadrajet equipped cars (ie 308's) it's blocked off.

As you don't have a carby you can safely and legally block it off as well.

Hi Guy's,

can anyone let me know where I can get some wiper assemblies from in black [not the arms].

Rares and the other suppliers can only supply them in stainless.

Regards Mando.

Seems to be hard to get good adhesion to stainless. Maybe powder coat or light sand blast prior to etch prime.

Can you anodise stainless?

I think they used to call it black chrome, if that's the same thing?

Just scuff it and rattle can it. It’s surprising how well things come up. Seems to last well and is easy enough to redo if needed at some stage.

Andrew,

I haven't had much luck with black chrome.

Rexy,

I know I'm over thinking this.

Sometimes the easiest solution is often the best.

Dave,

I didn't think about powder coating.

I'll pull them apart then decide.

Thanks for the idea's.

Regards Mando.

Hi Guy's,

does anyone have a pair of LX Hatch quarter window latches they're happy to sell?

Average condition would be great, but I'll look at anything that may be available.

That is a thing of beauty, well done!

With the (almost) solid mounts on the tailpipes, I assume there's a flex-pipe in the exhaust somewhere between the cats and the mufflers?

Hello Andrew,

I always get scared when I see one of your posts.

Your assumption would be wrong.

I have more rubber mounts through the centre of the car, but I don't have any of those flex pipes I now notice on other LS resto mods.

Again, I foolishly assumed the guy who did the exhaust system knew everything I should need on my LS3

and would have installed it accordingly.

WRONG AGAIN.

What will happen if I don't have them installed?

The exhaust is stainless from the extractors to the diff, so it wouldn't be that difficult to cut and install two flex pipes.

Regards Mando.

They certainly are not mandatory, but of course if you have a motor that moves around a lot and an exhaust that is very tightly retained, there might be some fighting going on there.

I believe that the only "no brainer" application for flex pipes would be in an application where the motor is east-west as its torque-reaction is on a totally different plane to the direction of the exhaust.

Do the exhaust mounts closer towards the front of the car have more freedom of movement than the rear ones? (I think at least that would be recommended!)
