I would like to warn those rebuilding their late ( August September 1973 ) XU-1 engines, or building engines retro fitted with the Star-fire, or late red, Blue/Black con rods that the big end torques quoted in many workshop manuals are incorrect.

The correct torque is actually 35ft lbs,( 48Nm ) not the quoted 25ft lbs ( 35Nm ).

I have struggled to find any period publications between 1973 and 1983 that have the correct specification, note not even some for the Star-fire 4.  Even one publication quoting Holden as their source have the wrong specification.

I discovered this in the early 1980's.    Mike

Hey Mike, you want to get yourself a copy of the 'Holden Improved Performance L6 & V8 Engines Service Manual' (Blue Motor).

Torque Wrench Specifications

L6 Engines

Connecting Rods .........................................41 - 48Nm

My Ellery's VB - VK Commodore Service Manual also quotes the same specification as the above.
