If you are referring to the original underlay (Jute - brown hession type matting) then I believe it may have been in separate i.e front in three sections (both footwells then gearbox tunnel) and rear floorpan all as one although its hard to seek advise on this topic as most original underfelts have rotted away so finding member who can contribute to this topic is difficult/

The jute underfelt was mated to a bitumen type cardboard which I think went on top of the Jute. Probably to prevent water/spills penetrating carpet. My car had most of it but couldn't find anyone who had that jute to replace both my front footwells even though it was not exclusively used for cars. I've seen it used as an underfelt in houses. I was just trying to keep everything looking 'period' for the car.

If you can find the post I put pics up on here before with the original under lay in a lj xu1i got out of Adelaide some years back, it was in great original condition.

This is a photo of my rear floor pan which is all original including the carpet albeit its stuffed.
