Hi,

I'm about to use De.ox.it metal conditioner  from GRP and the instructions seem a little ambiguous to me.

Can anyone tell me how they applied it?

Did you sand the metal surface with say 240 after the deoxit process, then prime,  or reverse?

Thanks.

Sand 1st, then your Deoxit product, then etch prime, otherwise your sanding the prepared surface off.

Thanks , the bottle also says , once you wipe  down  dry is off, let it activate for 15-20 mins.

It doesn't say how long to leave on the panel wet before wiping and drying.

But then says, after you wipe and and dry , leave it for 15-20min to activate.( does this stuff activate when its dry?)...

then says, wipe down with methylated spirits within 30min.( iI assume this is to removed any moisture before priming)

and Then says. clean off residue with water..   WHat The?

I use it 50:50 diluted with water for a strong mix.  Spray on with a trigger spray bottle from Bunnings.  Spray on, and while wet I use steel wool to help it get into the rust.

Re-apply as required.  When I'm finished with the De-Ox-It I wash it down with water and dry with either compressed air, paper towels, a hot air gun or a combination depending on what the situation demands.

Once it's dry the metal will tend to have a yellowish tint to it if not a powdery white finish.

I've had treated, clean and rust free metal remain flash rust free for quite a while once it has been treated with De-Ox-It but prefer to paint as soon as possible after treatment if at all possible.

I'll generally hit bare metal with Valspar Industrial Etch before top coating if I'm not using body filler, otherwise I'll scuff metal with 80 grit and blow off with air before body filler/undercoat/topcoat stage.

So you are scuffing after deoxit ?

Im not etch priming  but using epoxy primer, any issues with that?

Scuffing after Deoxit only if using body filler.

Otherwise I find that the Deoxit itself leaves enough of an etch on the steel for paint to adhere to.

But body filler needs more of a tooth to grab onto.
