Hi all,
Have had this alternator on the LJ track car for several years.
It has worked fine.
Recently though, the "Gen." light in the ammeter is on and stays on.
I have checked the voltage at the + terminal is 12.6v.
It does not change voltage with engine revs
There is no seperate regulator.
There has only ever been 2 wires connected to it, the Brown IND wire, and the main big +ve wire.
With the ingntion "on" there is 12v on the
IND terminal.i.e it has the initial excitement supply.
The battery slowly goes flat as you drive the car.
Thus it appears it is not charging at all.
My questions are -
1 The alternator appears foreign to the car?...what is it from?
2 It appears to have integrated brushes i.e. not serviceable.
3 Is it a throw away?

Thanks in advance

Hi Col

They were fitted to 1973 Holdens & Torana, may also have been fitted to later 1972 models?

Yes they have the internal regulator and yes they can be dismantled and repaired.

Spare parts may be an issue these day and finding an old school auto leckie that can do it.

OK, thanks Dave.

I'll check around town on Monday.

Of some interest , I did Google the ""Lucas 15AC"" , but amongst the pics of them, none were exactly the same. i.e. the ONLY terminals on mine are the big +ve  and the IND.  The other possible connections are empty.

Mr Goog seems to say they were on Mini Mokes etc.  ( and , as you say, later little Toranas ).

Just FYI..
while awaiting spares availability etc, I picked up this new "fake" Bosch unit for $175.
Same dimensions, straight swap.
Car is not concourse ( sic) so may even leave it on the car. Better than 47 y.o. repaired unit.. maybe..
