A friend has just picked up an LH sedan

I told him to buy it... seemed like a good deal and if he didn't I might have

Now the thing is... identifying its origins are a bit of a thing

Someone cleaned the tags in acid

So they are almost gone

What we know is that the tags match the shell.. pics below

Its a 74 car... tag says 6th or 8th month

It has factory 253 auto

Some off things that might help identify it and maybe you guys can help

1. Has a radio aerial mounted on the passengers rear quarter (may have been certain dealers that did that)

2. Has a white needle dash with 200km speedo (dual scale km's and miles)

3. However... the other positions are blank left hand... no clock or tach... the one on the right is std SL stuff... not quad gauges

4. No signs of rivets to hold tail lights trims on or SLR type chrome window trims

I think this thing is actually a base model S optioned up with 253 and 200km speedo

And its got a paint code that shows as Covert Metallic

Any thoughts ??

The guy is going to contact the relevant people to try get some info based on whats still readable on the tags.

I agree with your assessment Neil.

An 8/74 LH Torana S optioned up with L32 & M40.

The instruments sound like std Torana S except for the dual scale 200km speedometer. (six or seven digit odometer?)

Perhaps the 200km speedo was mandatory with L32? :dontknow:

6 digit

Certainly an odd colour and engine combo for an LH S model

Chassis number ALH018756M should be an 08/74 and the compliance plate lists ADR 9 so definitely belongs to an automatic vehicle.

VIN should be 8B69RD J447360H ??

The Chassis number and PSN would seem to fall into sequence so I'd say there's a good chance those two plates belong together?

I would've expected those to be "big rivet" tags but it's hard to tell with the state they're in?

And yup, 1864-62V should be Covert Metallic (567-15332) with Doeskin / Chestnut trim...

Its been messed with and painted a few times

Hard to tell

Tags say 1864-62V as you say Bigfella.... but the tag says 15331 not 15332

Either way...I think he's resigned to the fact its not anything special and won't be restored stock

But will be improved and painted a different colour anyway

Apologies, Datto, my fat fingers strike again!

Yeah I don't think it'd really be worth restoring a "S" model to concours condition, unless it's totally original to begin with... have at it.
