Restamp alright, and a really bad one at that.

What amazes me is why people make a restamp JP engine and it isn't the correct engine number for their car.

once something like this is done it throws a level of doubt over the whole car i feel.(did they stop at just the eng numbers?) even if the correct identifiers are on the body.

anyway its typical for the ones going thru the auction houses.

That engine stamping is atrocious. I wouldn't go near this car. If you buy this then when you go to sell it the skepticism starts again. So you inherit the problem. What price do you put on a genuine JP engine plant? even a replacement JP engine?  20K.? Rest of the car looks Ok although I would never ever buy a car based on photos. I guess each XU1 brings to the table a different set of attributes/problems. Not many XU1 are truly original/unmolested.

So now there is two threads about this vehicle and it's engine number now. The other is now saying although it's been restamped the number is correct.

Yes, I believe it is G 9 (July 1969) Pt No. 7423170-STD is the std radiator for a HK Holden with 161ci engine.

Most likely the HK fan guard has been fitted to a Torana radiator.

C9 or G9 it doesn't really matter, it's not a Torana radiator. Radiator Pt No. 7423170 was the std duty radiator for HD, HR, HK, HT, HG Holdens fitted with 149, 179, 161 & 186 engines.
