Sorry for the long winded post.Took the 3.36LSD out of the LJ XU1 and sent it in to get freshened up as it sounded tired (whine at 60mph under acceleration and deacceleration and float whine but quiet under 60mph). Went to a reputable diff repairer and $650 later put the diff back in with 140grade Penrite and it sounds the same. Went back to the repairer and took him for a drive. He confirmed its a diff whine at 60mph (float whine) and that would need to be removed and send it to Brisbane to be lapped (why he didn't lap it the 1st time hence why I didn't go back). Rather than he sending it to that repairer I took it myself to the diff lapping mob (reputable) who said the tooth markings were good but they lapped it anyway.  Meanwhile its now cost me over a grand. Had both uni's replaced and shaft balanced at same time to eliminate that side of things. Fitted it all yesterday again with 140 Penrite and some Moly additive the lapping mob gave me and now under acceleration the whine/whirring sound is still there. Comes in at about 55mp/h under acceleration and gets louder at 60mph. When you de-accelerate its still there but now no float whine. FFS is this a gearbox bearing making this sound. Quiet as a mouse up to 60mp/h. My question is: its obviously not the cluster as this is happening in 4th, so could the main shaft bearings in the box be doing this at 60 as appears my noise hasn't changed much.
