Hi all

 

I have a Holden 308 motor which is mated with the above quadrajet. I believe that it is the correct carb for my engine.

 

I am rebuilding the carb and want to get it working 100%. 

 

I am having issues with the automatic choke setup. It has the divorced choke on the intake which uses heat from the manifold to disengage.

 

Does anyone have a diagram or pic of how the plumbing for the hot air pipe from manifold to intake. (My choke currently takes too long to disengage).

 

Also the link rod from the secondary flaps to the plastic choke pulloff was messed with at some point by the previous owner. Does anyone have a pic of this rod? At the moment I find that once started and the pull off is pulling vacuum the bend in the rod does not reach the link on the choke to open the primary flaps sufficiently so that the motor can run nicely, it seems to be getting over choked.

 

I hope my explanation above is clear enough, will try and upload pics later.

Hi Kavesh,

 

Yes the 7029282 is the correct HT/HG 308 auto quadrajet

Here's some pics of the plumbing for the auto choke from the exhaust manifold to the carby. These are from a HQ but it is the same setup for HT/HG.

Also pics of an restored quadrajet I downloaded from the Holdenpaedia webpage showing the linkage.

But don't copy 50% of that incorrect plating.

Thanks Kev, much appreciated. 

The hot air pipe is not original? I know there is a opening at the lower end of the manifold to accept a 6mm pipe which I assumed would be the heat source. For simplicity though I like the pic you posted, will be a lot easier to get right.

 

Are these carbs still popular and being used in Oz?

 

My link rod does not look like that, even the one I managed to find locally has the main 90 degree bend in the centre is not located where I need it.

Would anyone have a few parts for the 7029282 quadrajet that you willing to part with? Looking at the choke setup and the link rod mentioned above?

 

I know I am very far away but would like to see if anything is available and would consider getting it here if we can find a way to ship it at an affordable rate.

Just google quadrajet parts cheap.  There are a number of places in the USA that stock parts.  May be more economical seeing you are in SA.  Good luck. Ron

Will do Cook. I doubt that my carb model would have made it to the USA though. But will try anyway, perhaps I will get lucky:-)

The 7029282 carb that you have was manufactured in the USA. It is a Rochester Quadrajet 4MV divorced choke. unit, made in the tens if not hundreds of thousands for 1965-1974 GM V8's

You won't find that specific part number in the USA, there are hundreds of models all with different numbers specifying whether the carb is to suit Pontiac, Buick, Chevrolet, Holden etc, auto/manual, year of manufacture, engine size etc. All pretty much the same carburettor with different jetting although the manual and auto carbs have different baseplates as the vacuum advance is taken off in different locations as auto carbs have full vacuum advance at idle whereas manual carbs have ported vacuum advance.
