LC Front End Rebuild and engine Cam change

It’s been years since I have been on this site, but I thought I would have a look for the sake of it. I found the site still had members helping other members. Not the smart arse keyboard worrier responses you see on Facebook. I was pleasantly surprised and happy to see this.
So, given I have just started work on my LC, thought I would post a thread for those interested.
I have a 1970 LC GTR. It drives and feels great. I happened to have it up on my hoist and noticed the outrigger bushes had all but disappeared. The only think holding it in place was the sway bar. On further inspection I found every other blue Superpro style bush had also given up. There is a mix of rubber and blue bushes throughout the front end. So, I began the task of undoing the front end and dropped out the complete front end with motor and box still in tact. Was actually easier and quicker to do than I expected. Photos below of the first steps.

I bought the bushes from Shop that had a big sale on last weekend. I paid over the phone and had a mate pick them up for me as he was going anyway, and saved me a trip to the other side of town. I will get them from him in the next day or two. So in the interim, I started to remove the motor, well parts of it. I have never been happy with the idle of the engine. It needs more attitude. Also I always thought the e gone bay needed a tidy up. The car looks awesome but to me the engine bay let it down. This is now a perfect opportunity to do it all. Issue is I know nothing of the engine. I started with a compression test and was happy with the result. 81CEE5CC-D110-4AD3-AF3A-B833E1785A32.jpeg 99.95K 3 downloads

Took my head and cam to HSD in Melbourne. He looked over the head and told me I had a really good base for a strong quick engine. Just some components weren’t best suited to each other. His thoughts were wrong valve springs for the cam. Was confident it was getting coil bound. Also suggested different rockers. Wanted to keep them on a common shaft rather than individual. Add to that new push rods, a valve grind, little bit more porting, new Cam and timing gears, and now we have a scope of works and parts list that’s a bit more than I had hoped for.
Oh well, only money right??🤣🤣

Here is my reassembly.
First step carpet pads on the table and hang the lower control arm off the edge to insert the spring 21CC82D9-2CBA-4EE0-82BE-B04F0CC91E09.jpeg 117.05K 1 downloads

You can see I have a ratchet strap over the tp of the front end and around the table. It is connect back on its self so it can’t slip when under pressure.

Then strap it down nice and tight until the stub axle lands nicely on the bottom ball joint. Pull down as Farr as possible so the nut can get as many threads as possible so it can’t pull off when the strap is released.
