Hi All,

Anyone have any tips for using a vacuum pump or and exhaust crankcase ventilation setup rather than the traditional ones ? just don't like the idea of the standard setups going through my nice new engine even through catch cans and air/oil seperators while still maintaining the positive crankacase ventilation to help the rings, oil seals etc.

Regards

Liam

We used to use Corona or corolla unit's years ago, because they were cheap, compact, easy to adapt & plentiful. Just used a closed cap with a pipe fitting, 3/4" i think. Pretty sure rocket do a package for them, they used to, I'm positive.

The proflow catch cans, have a oil separator, another brand with an a, sometimes don't. I have a catch can, on the ss, no oil ever in the manifold. Technically shouldn't be vented to the atmosphere though. My new 1 will be, diesel catch cans seem to be popular, just not to astheleticly pleasing in appearance.

Thanks mate,

I'll check that out that one from rocket industries, I have seen that ryco do a new crankcase ventilation filter to play in the Diesel catch can space that i was looking at that and then could just plumb it back into the manifold, these are sold even by supercheap and are similar to the mann hummel ones. Yeah you are right it looks pretty ordinary.

Was just thinking from a puritanical point of view a vaccum pump run through a catch can and then into the exhaust through a one way valve would be best but what a pain in the arse to do. Would also only work depending on the back pressure of the exhaust.

Cheers

yes I've run a morose 3 vane pump on a red to get the most benefit you need to use low tension rings aswell it worked well on our setup but i would not recommend it other than for an all out race setup. a lot of trial an error to get it setup right.

That Ryco setup looks like a pretty good kit, but not the best looking thing around.

Could it be hidden under a guard or does it have to be at a certain height?

Thanks Guys,

The amount of effort seems to be large for a small gain, main thing is to get no oil whatsoever in the manifold and secondary would be not getting the hot air sucked in. Just curious what alternatives people have done other than standard. Not sure about the ryco filter was thinking just just below the strut mount in the engine bay on the passenger side but agree it looks like dogs balls compared to a nice catch can. Like the idea of the internal filter though than relying on baflles

Cheers

whould anybody also have any ideas on what PCV valve to use for a worked engine with valve overlap when connected to the inlet manifold, maybe one that would be slightly slower to open and close ?

I have an Aerospace vacuum pump system, the main reason I put it on was pesky oil leaks caused by crank case pressure. Front and rear seals would always weep. Until I started using vacuum pumps, never had a leak since, plus with big cube motors, you get a minimum 20-30 extra horse power for free.

Its stupid expensive but works well for me:

You can't really beat the PCV valve and engine vacuum for efficiency, once you remove that the breathers have to be so much bigger to achieve anything.
