I need to make room so I'm clearing out the rust. Here's what's been cut out so far. This is 90% but there will be more little bits to come.

Ha ha! I took half a cars worth of rust to the tip about 6 weeks ago too.

I'm still reluctant to take to the tip, just incase I need a bit or reference a shape. 

So it's all piled up in the front garden bed to attract the snakes and rust away.

Progress has slowed but hope to get back into it soon.

 

One thing I have sorted is all the bits for the Rat Trap.  Out of all these bits I only just had the correct bits, so many differences in the parts. Most of it is probably off other models of Holden.

I used the parts diagram, pics of my LJ trap and the LJ trap for guidance.

I stripped all the traps and used all the best correct bits to make up one set. Next will be restoring it at some stage.

Decided to clean up the distributer I got with my re-conditioned engine. On the receipt it said this was reconditioned but that only means new points and condenser to these guys.

Pull the guts out and found it very mucky.

Cleaned and lubed it up and put it all together.

Well I finally grew some balls and welded the front guards and nose cone on. It's been a long time from first fit-up to now but I'm very happy with it. I've still left the bottom of passenger guard off and that can be done later.

I have a dilemma!

 

 

I want to get the car on a rotisserie but my garage isn't long enough for it. So not wanting to be beaten by this challenge I looked for ideas, then I noticed I have two brick pillars that could be used as end supports

 

I did a heap of research on our forum and googled other rotisserie ideas to come up with something that could work.

50 x 7mm flat bar tapped to suit.

The front bit takes shape. I made an adjustable pivot because I wasn't sure on balance point.

Getting the rear section square to car is important because I'll have limited flex being secured to brick-work.

I had jacked the car up level (spirit level on sills) before levelling the rear mount.

I read that the rear panel of car can flex when mounted like this so I added a brace to parcel shelf.

You can see the hole marks on brick pillar where the plate will mount. I used a laser level to get level mounting points on both pillars.

Greasing it up for it's final insertion then once both plates are on I'll slide the car across in-between the pillars and bolt it up.

 

Sally is worried the pillars and garage will fall down but I think it'll be OK.

We'll find out tomorrow if this was a good idea or not???

I will be watching this rotisserie idea. I was seriously should we start a good & bad rotisserie idea's this week. I'm going to build 1 in the future & i was thinking imput from previous users, could create some clever idea's. You don't want to have to build 1 twice.

Good idea with the parcel shelf brace Marty,mine flexed slightly on the rotisserie when moved ,then had to spent extra time sorting that out.

For those interested (like Gary) some of the measurements are

1200mm from floor to centre of rotator and the car spins on the axis of the centre of fuel filler and headlights.

 

Indi Orange Paul - I read about the flex and tested it before bracing and it definitely worried me so after brace it was solid.

 

Plenty of work to do now.
