Nice work there Marty, it’s a big effort getting a whole car in epoxy. I bet the shed turned green grey haha

I’m in the trade and haven’t seen those pourers, they look the business, always hard with a full tin haha. Clay I believe epotec to be a good product and a lot of restoration shops use it. PPG in general seams a common choice particularly with Aussie cars and colours, probably because they bought out dulux back in the day. Cheers

Hi Brad, thanks. It took the whole day with clearing out garage, cleaning, prep, painting and then putting all the stuff back in garage. I was knackered. Epotec is an amazing product and amazingly cheap. 5 litres for about $100.

Epotec 408 grey green? Good stuff.

Yes and as above.

Heres the pics from that day.

I decided to prep and etch the under side of bonnet and fuel tank while I was set-up.

Hi Gene, sure feels good to have it clean. I'm thinking of focusing on patching(bogging) and prepping floorpan inside and out while the weather is warm. Then when it gets cold I'll focus on finishing the final rust repair sections.

Marty, fantastic work, looks great and thanks for taking the time to post so many photos, i'm sure they are invaluable to all the forum members as inspiration and reference.

Hi Paul, there's something about the floor pan that makes me want to get it looking like new. A big waste of time for most but it's just something I want to do.

Looks good well done.

Cheers purrlx

Fantastic work.

I tried those plastic pourers.

I ended up buying the stirrer/pourers that are used in the paint suppliers.

Lots easier to work with. Think they were about 40 bucks or so each.

Cheers

The next day after etching I started sanding back the whole car. This etch gets very hard in a few days (so i was told) so for easy sanding do it before then.

This gives you a visual idea on where the dents are which have been hard to notice so far.

Attached File  IMG_4005.jpeg   27.8K   10 downloads

Then I set up the bogging equipment.

Attached File  IMG_3999.jpeg   53.75K   10 downloads

Great to practice on the hidden areas, I'm learning that once the bog is applied, clean the tools then get into rough shaping with the 40 grit even if it balls up due to being soft. Don't wait too long or it becomes a mission to sand the big lumps back.

Attached File  IMG_4030.jpeg   41.84K   9 downloads

Attached File  IMG_4031.jpeg   54.51K   12 downloads

Plan is to bog all the non important bits for a few weeks then etch repairs.

Hi Gene, it will be painted Red - "Red Oxide" and it makes all the difference.

I can't believe you sanded the whole underside of the cars KBS. What a mission.
You can paint over it before when it goes touch dry. I painted the raptor liner over it after 2 hrs so I didn't have to sand it.
The paint looks awesome Marty.
Top job.

Good work Marty
Lots of sanding. If you try wiping the cured surface of the bog with acetone prior to commencing sanding you may find it sands more easily without clogging paper.

Used to use a cheese grater file in my younger days to shape the bog.

Had a long one for the open bits and a broken off piece for the tight spots.

With practice you get lots better and might even get away with just 2 bog sessions on the area.

But it usually turns out to be around 4.

I even used different coloured bogs at one stage to make it easier to see what was going on.

Cheers

Rob

Now we are all owning up to bogging our cars, I use the strip disc to take off large chunks.

Hi Mitch, I just had so much welding to rust seal I couldn't do it all in time and etch before it cured so decided to do it the hard way.

Hi Rob, probably two goes on the inside/hidden stuff and four when I get to exterior panels.

Hi Clay, I reckon I'll put 8kg of bog on this car and sand 7kg off. I think bogging a car refers to those using over 4mm thickness and filling holes and dents with the stuff.

The rust repair panel has arrived and looks very nice. I'm now nibbling away at the old bits so I can lay this bit in.

Did you measure the rear screen opening at any points prior to removing the panel at the bottom. Maybe position it with the bootlid on and adjusted.

The KBS RUST SEAL is hard work to sand by hand.

Bog is bog whatever the thickness.

When I stripped back Griceys old hatch, there was more than 2 inches of the stuff in places.

They had even belted a couple of holes through the tin to help it hold in.

I guess the idea was to repair it as quick as possible to get it back to racing.

There was a couple layers of repairs over the original colour.

Cheers

Rob

There are serious artisans that file finish panels and don't use any filler. I sure aren't one.

You have to use minimal filler even with file finish surely no body is that good

Hi James, no I didn't measure it, It looks like there is very little adjustment anyway. I'll probably leave this until autumn/winter and check it then. Thanks.

Agreed. File finishing thins your metal all over.

Pretty sure they use lead to get smooth finish. Lead is just another sort of bog.

Working on the guard channels where it was welded on. Made a custom bog scraper to fit.

Then bogged it, sanded and trialing some imitation spot weld marks.

Hi Marty, I have to make imitation spot welds sometimes at work, I’ve found using a bolt ground nice and flat on the threaded end and do it in the primer. About the second or third coat you put it in and twist a bit, it seams to work well for me. Cheers
