I had that problem. I couldn't leave all the welding splatter and rough edges on mine. The joys of being pedantic.

It's been a challenge getting the bush out of the diff. From memory my suspension guy just banged them out with a hammer and drift.

I tried that with no luck and had plenty of issues using the bolt and spacers method.

Finally they're out.

Found a crack in the frame and also had to repair a bent bump stop and twisted top washer.

Used the oxy to heat up then banged the bits back into shape. Bump stop looks like it must have been hitting the spring so someones clobbered it with a cold chisel to move it back. Once it was back in shape I measured clearance to compare to other side. It did need some massaging to get the distance correct.

Attached File  IMG_8891.jpeg   116.65K   15 downloads

I ground a 'v' section out of the crack then gave it a good weld and grind back.

Then finally another wash with 'rust blast'

Need to get some etch on these blasted parts. Difficult with the temps being so cold but thought I'g have a crack.

Put the heater on for a few hours and got the temp up to 20 degrees.  Then turn the gas off and start spraying.

Is melting human flesh something that you see very often Marty? It's not a hobby that you've talked about before.

The Truth is Marty, you cleaned off the welds to keep Gene happy, but in doing so made the K-frame too smooth, now its paint just runs of like Freddy Krugers face. :)

It's pretty easy to get runs in winter. More time between coats Marty, & back off the fluid.

Hi Gary, problem is I'm using a gas fired heater so I have to turn it off when painting and I have to get the paint on quick before metal goes cold. I'm thinking of hiring a paint booth to get the final black on.

Hi James, no experience in that stuff. It's just what it looked like. :-)

Polished up the junction brake block.

Before the front and rear axles go in I want to fit the brake and fuel lines. I bought a coil of each then built a pipe straightener.

Got some chrome work done and a fairly successful result.

Most of it was die-cast so this stuff is always touch-and-go as if it'll work.

The only piece I'm not happy with is the grill badge, it has pox marks from impurity in the cast. Chromer had two goes at it before admitting defeat. If it begins to bother me I'll send it over east to the company that has perfected die-cast chroming.

Attached File  IMG_9092.jpeg   445.52K   15 downloads

Attached File  IMG_9091.jpeg   180.52K   11 downloads

I told the chromer to only focus on the lip edges of tail lights the rest will be hi-filled and painted. No need to waste his time and my money on something not seen.

Sweet. Looks quite good in the photos Marty.

Interesting that they made the ashtrays considerably more basic on the LH-LX.

Hi Dave, I pulled one apart before chroming to adjust the click bit that holds window in and out. Then put together. So the answer is No. They were chromed as one piece. Very happy with result.

Hi Paul, Yes, New owner, young guy who's been very helpful with me. Explaining and demonstrating some of the process. Getting a better understanding on why it costs so much to get chrome done.

Getting the K-Frame bits ready for black paint. I knew these looked a bit out of shape so checked the measurements and used my new tool (thanks Ian) to expand them back into shape.

Wound them out to 215mm and they sprung back to the 204mm

Hi Martin, I've been focusing on the Bathurst trip the last few months. Just got back a few days ago so hopefully get back into it soon.
